I am thinking about getting a leupold mark 4 1.5-5x.  Question is is that I dont really need a illuminated recticle, but the m2 also has a quarter larger tube.  So is this really worth 250 extra bucks.  I have a tack driver that I only shoot once a month in the daytime.  1000 dollars is really the limit of how much I am willing to spend and larue has the scope mount combo for that much, but I could save a few hundred if I went the other direction.  I only use the scope for varmint hunting in the brush.  And on onw other note, I also find the more expensive m2 to be more asthetically pleasing.

Are the mark4 series covered by the full lifetime warranty, site doesn't say, but plenty of online retailers advertise it.  That to me is one of the bigger selling points as I could have the exact scope I want with a lifetime warranty.

The 1.1x5 MK4 does have thier lifetime warranty. I sent mine in because the illumination stopped working. I had it back in about 10 days free of charge other than me having to pay shipping to them.
I also had a 4.5x14x50 LRT that my AR10 decided to squash as it fell off my bed while packing up for a range trip and landed right on the scope smashing the sun shield and messing up the threads in the OBJ where the shade screws into. They fixed that for free also and checked out the rest of the scope for any damage so their warranty is something I like also.

I never use the illumination feature as it is can't be seen in daylight but it is there so I figured I would get it fixed. I bought the MK4 M2 for the knobs because for me it is easier to turn the knob for the range than try and use the hold overs on the reticle.

The place I bought my scope for 750 has had a huge price increase so direct from LaRue my be the best bet unless you can find a used one for a decent price.

so do you think that the 30 mm tube being almost a quarter larger than the much more reasonably priced one inch tube is worth the difference.  I am leaning to yes just because as I said I like the way it looks better also.  Not a big key factor I know, but when I amdropping big money on something that I am going to keep forever, it helps when I look at it.

For me it was worth it just because of the M2 knobs. Also all my scopes are 30mm so I can swap them around and not have to buy different mounts and rings.

I have this scope and the M2 turrets are great. 1/2 moa is great for fine adjustments.

I think it is a great scope for an AR. Get a Larue SPR mount for it and you'll be good to go.

Personally, I would only sell mine if I got the same money I paid for it because of the lifetime warranty. Still, I would like to have a 2.5-8 MRT with M2, ill.TMR. So, if you know anyone that wants to buy a 1.5-5, IM me so I could use the money to put towards a 2.5-8 MRT.

The main benefit of a 30mm tube is more MOA adjustment range.  For typical AR shooting, the difference isn't going to be a major factor.  If you like the 30mm scope better for other reasons, that's what you'll remember long after you've forgotten the extra few hundred bucks.

All Leupold's scopes (with a few exceptions, like the old Leupold Gilmore red dot) are covered by a lifetime warranty.
