| Would it be wise to use a handgun scope, instead of a full rifle scope, for the added eye relief?? |

A handgun scope would need to be mounted out on the handguard, as they have eye relief so you get a good FOV with the handgun at arm's length. For Leupold's fixed power handgun scopes, eye relief is 18 inches. This can work fine, but you need solid handguards (preferably FF), and the whole scout scope concept has you shoot with both eyes open, which means you're mostly limited to 4x and below. This can be a problem for some people, but it's fine for others. I have a S&W 27 revolver with a Leupold 2x scope, and it's a pleasure to shoot, but it's not very fast to aquire a sight picture on. I've also run a Burris 1.5-4x handgun scope on an Ultimak scout rail on a Mini 14, and it was quicker due to a repeatable cheek weld, but it's still not as fast as a non-magnified optic. |
