Being able to switch from magnified to 1 power with a throw lever is outstanding. The unit I have includes an illuminated dot reticle as well as a more std type scope reticle - depending on which direction you turn the knob one or the other is illuminated. And with each type reticle the brightness is set by how far you turn the knob in its respective direction. Very well thought out IMO. The clarity of the glass is also very good. Shooting up close with an ACOG using BAC is not a problem for me (I know this varies by shooter), but allowing both type optics in one pkg seems like a good idea. Use it as a non-maginified red dot by default and then throw the lever for a longer precision shot - or for target observation. Used in place of an aimpoint or eotech with an add-on magnifier it provides similar functionality in a smaller pkg. But also adds a second reticle for more precise magnified use that you don't get with most aimpoints/eotechs. It is expensive, but if you choose to spend the $, the quality is there IMO. --------------------------- Good review Victor - I look forward to reading part II when you get it posted.  |
| I read on another board that they can have problems not holding zero due to the ARMS mounts they come with as well as the external adjustments. The scope actually moves in the mount to adjust zero so if it is impacted it can move evidently. It is wierd a few years ago everybody said that ARMS mounts were the sh*t. |
There are locks that are supposed to make the mount actually move from hittin gthe adjustments a non issue but if it moves anyway that would be a major design flaw. You should not have to alter the adjustments once it is sighted in. Is it the throw levers that cause the shifting, repeated use of the adjustments or just the adjustments breaking that cause zero shifting? |
I have been told (KevinB) and a few others on the early production models had this issue. During my initial review, I did not notice this and I still have my 1st DR with no POA/POI issues between 1 and 4x. I was told the 2nd production models has this issue and Elcan pulled numerous units. Since I just got my 1st two units in, I have not had a chance to shoot with these as yet. I do plan on doing an extensive shoot with the newest models to see if any issues such as this show up. Vic |
| Im pretty curious about this sight and would like to pick one up. But I keep getting conflicting reports. Im looking forward to hearing more and more good reviews! I'd really like one. Customer of mine just picked up one of the new models in tan and a friend of mine just picked one up too. They sure look like a great general purpose optic. |

I've had one of the Gen I units for a couple years now, actually am on my second as the first one went TU after a few months. The sight was fine, but the illumination would turn on-off-on-off... every time the gun fired. Interesting, but not useful. The replacement, still a Gen I, has been fine to date. The external adjustments seem to work fine and I have had no issues with them shifting. The Arms mount is tight, but I have not taken it on and off repeatedly, always a bad idea with ARMS mounts. IMHO. The divergence from 1x to 4x was just under 1moa on the first unit, and just over 1/2 moa on the second. Their acceptability threshold is 1moa max. 1moa is okay as long as you don't shoot at distant targets at 1x magnification. Just zero at 4x and you will be fine out to 100 yards at 1x. If you forget though it's easy to miss an 8" plate at 300 yards. (Ask me how I know!) The old-style reticles are better for field-expedient precision. The lines in the newer reticles are much thicker and obscure targets much more. I have heard this complaint from folks with the newer reticles. The other thing I would change would be to magically disappear the large adjustment knob on the left side. It fills up a good portion of your left-eye field of view, which takes a good bit of practice to work through if you plan to shoot fast on close up targets. |
