I have decided to mount a 1-4 optic on one of my guns, and of course, I have a fixed front sight base that is blaring obvious on the 1x settings. So, I am wanting to change out to a folding sight, but have a question. I have a VikingTactics hand guard, carbine length, with the sight pocket extension. It makes a rifle length hand guard with an open pocket for the A2 sight to come up through. I am thinking about putting a folding sight in there, but not sure if the sight would fit, and even if it would fold up within the dimensions of the A2 sight. Or does opinion think I might be better off to just use a cut-off or low-profile gas block, and go with a rail mounted sight? Thanks for any suggestions and assistance -Kirt |
| I would go for the rail mounted sight to get the extra sight radius from the longer rail... plus its easier to access the folding front sight when its up on top of the rail and you can just cut your current FSB down to make an economical low profile gas block and repark it. That said it should fit with no issues if you use the folding FSB on your current rail. At least the PRI and GGG units I have used and am familiar with would fit if the bayonet lug wont get in the way of the GGG. I also have more faith in a pinned gas block and locktited BUIS on a rail than a clamp on FSB/gas block if you have considered going that route. |

I went ahead and ordered the rail for my forearm, and will be mounting a sight there. I hadn't thought about the extra radius. It may be only 3 in. but hey, it's something. Fortunatley, VikingTactics/JP has a rail just for this purpose that will co-witness with the receiver. I have a couple of pinned A2 sights that are available for sacrifice to cut down also. Now to decide on which sight to try out first. Thanks again -Kirt |

I run a Troy and its fine but would prefer the A2 sight post version. The regular Troy uses a round AK front sight post. KAC rail mount is slimmer but does not lock in the up position. Samson is supposed to be a lot like the Troy but is spring loaded and released with a button. I have not tried it yet. I prefer to just flip the front sight up and have it lock into place. |
