I just purchased an AR-10 18' Bull Barrel. I would like this rifle to be versatile. hunting, range, shtf ect. It is not for a specified activity other than I want a performer past 300 meters. My only other rifles are my M4 and 2 AK's. The AK with Kobra sight is fine for taking deer in Eastern Nebraska but performance fades past 250 meters imoho. I have no knowledge of scopes or ACOG's or how to shop and compare them. This will probably be my only .308. Opinions....?? |
A drop bullet drop compensator is attractive. www.trijicon.com/user/parts/products1.cfm?PartID=150&back_row=3&categoryID=3 But $$$$ |
What brand of irons are you using ? |
Eerr you can get them for significantly less than Trijicon's price. They are definitely expensive new, but worth every penny IMHO. |

Low power variable, 1-4x or 2-7x. Fast and easy targeting with the low mag fov, with the option to dial out. Typical 4x fov is 30ft at 100, so for 10x (about 12ft at 100) that deer better slow moving in the open to target... My main 308 has a 4x24 with elevation clicks cammed for each 100. |
IMO, you have you setup backwards. why use the supersniper on a 5.56? At ranges out passed 300, they don't exactly do a lot of damage, plus wind is a much bigger factor with a 5.56 than with a .308. I'd stick the ACOG on a 5.56 the size or your ar10, then get an ar10 setup more like your 5.56. Just my opinion though. If it works for you then great. I'm just throwing out options here. +1 for the supersniper on the .308 though. |
The TA01B uses a reticle that is calibrated for the .308 round. TA01B |

I'll give you my experience and take it as you will... I had a TA11E on my AR10. When I first got the TA11, I figured it would be the last optic I'd ever buy. I really liked it(BDC, BAC, durable, great glas). It seemed like the perfect optic for me. Then I started shooting out past 200 yards at golf balls and such and realized that I did not have enough magnification. After a bit of a search I decided on a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x24. After two years, it is still the "only optic for me". On 2.5X, it can be used basically like an ACOG. The only bad thing is that the reticle is not quite bright enough on a bright sunny day for BAC use. The NXS really shines on 10X where I've found that I tend to do most of my shooting when outside of 100 yards...but it is nice to be able to crank it back down to the lower power at closer ranges. ![]()

I believe he was inquiring as to the BUIS, but then maybe I misunderstood. |
I guess your right, I've never thought about Irons being different based on caliber?? |

I would stay away from a fixed power 10x scope for this setup. The NF 2.5-10x, Leupold 2.5-8x36mm MR/T with the M2 are very cool, or an ACOG will be a great scope for an 18” AR10. What is the main distance range you would like to shoot with this set up? 0 to 200yds (1-4x are an ACOG) 50 to 600yds (ACOG to variable w/ a good top end) Mike @ CSGW www.csgunworks.com [email protected] Here’s some testimonials about CS GunWorks What do YOU have to say about CS GunWorks What Do You Think Of Cs Gunworks?
