Hello Everyone, I am new to the AR15 community. I am planning on getting a cheaper scope (200 or less) this is because I am planning to get a nicer scope or holographic site in a couple years, when I feel the time is appropriate and I am willing to shell the big bucks. NcStar seems to be all over ebay and many people have giving them good reviews. They offer a scope that is 1.5-6x40. This seems to be a very versitile scope, i would be able to shoot at a close distance with virtually no magnification and and 300 yards. It also has a large 40 mm opening which would transfer to a lot of light in the scope. This specific scope has an illuminated mil dot reticle and a lifetime warranty. This company will also allow me to return the scope if I am not satisfied. Anyways I am open to comments and suggestions. http://cgi.ebay.com/NCSTAR-MARK-III-1-5-6X40-ILLUMINATED-MIL-DOT-SCOPE_W0QQitemZ260203847216QQihZ016QQcategoryZ31714QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |

It's not easy to get a good scope in the $120 range, but I'd recommend an inexpensive Bushnell, Millett, or Mueller over NCStar, Leapers, BSA, Barska, Simmons, or other bottom-end scopes. For around the same price, the Mueller APV gets good reviews. It's still a gamble in that price range. For just a little more money, you can get a Burris FFII, Bushnell 3200, Nikon Buckmaster, or Weaver V series. Any of these will be a much better scope, with a better company behind it, and they'll retain value better for when you upgrade to a nicer scope. The NCStar will drop 50% of its value as soon as you pay for it. Spend an extra $50, and you'll get a much, much better scope experience. You can also keep an eye out at SWFA's SampleList - www.samplelist.com/default.aspx?display_num=10&mfg_selection=&prod_type=-1&hide_sold=False&sort_parm=swfa_price They recently sold a Leupold 2-7x28 Vari-X II for $150, which will kick the butt of the cheap scopes, and they have lots of Nikon 3-9x40 Buckmasters for $150, factory refurbished. |

Thanks for the feedback...looks like I won't be buying the ncstar anymore. I have been reading articles on the forum and everyone says they love the millet 1-4 power scope. The only thing that looked sketchy was how small the diameter was of the scope, does this not affect the amount of light let into the scope? Also say I was to get the millet what kind of mount should I get (with in a resonable price)? Appreciate it! |

The Millett is a bit hard to find right now, but they're available if you're patient. They need a long eye relief mount, as the eyepiece section is really long, so the main options there are the LaRue SPR-E and the American Defense Recon-X (both of which cost nearly as much as the scope), or an extended rail like the RRA with medium or high rings. If you shoot further back from the charging handle, many one-piece mounts will work. The diameter isn't as critical in a low-mag scope - if you look at the expensive scopes, they're mostly in the same neighborhood. What's important is the exit pupil, which is the objective divided by the power, so the Millet 1-4x24 would have exit pupils of 24mm and 6mm at the ends of the ranges. 6mm is fine for most people. Natchez is having a sale on blem Burris scopes, and if they have something you like in stock, the prices are very good. www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=BU200123B&src=BE242 |

The Sightron S1 series 3x9x40 are decent cheap scopes around $120.00. For high magnafication probably the old Simmons WTC 6.5X20X50 is the best deal for $100.00. There still made in the Philippenes. SWFA still has some WTC's. If you look around you can find the Sightron S1's for $109.00, in both duplex and mil dot reticles. Natchez has a sale on cosmetically flawed Burris scopes also. |

I had a NCS pistol scope to test drive the scout mount concept. Murky glass but fine until the eye piece fell out Here's a tasty clearance deal on nice clarity and durability http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210139 Bushnell 3200 Elite 2-7x 32 for $119 I saw this sale at Natchez. A great, quality, rimfire hunting scope at a reasonable price, with Rainguard. I think this scope is fully multicoated, however information is a bit unclear. Includes fire fly/glow in the dark reticles. Certainly not the smallest at 11.6 inches long and 12 oz. http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm...ID =BH322736M http://www.bushnell.com/general/rifl...0_32-2732m.cfm |

Bushnell 3200 Elite, Weaver V series, Burris lower end, are all worlds better than a chinese sportsman's guide special, a la NcStar, BSA, Tasco, Simmons, Barska, etc. These chi-neapies are market segment saturators. If you buy one, you'll be back here again in a couple of months asking for recommendations on *decent* scopes. |

have any of you guys used or have any opinions about the Bushnell 3200 1.5-4.5x32 scope? there are a couple on ebay that are priced around $200. Do you think it would be better than the millet 1-4 http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BUSHNELL-ELITE-3200-1-5-4-5X32-RIFLE-SCOPE-32-1546M_W0QQitemZ310015755545QQihZ021QQcategoryZ31714QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |
