Anyone see the new Aimpoint sight clones? These may have been around a long time so I apologize if this is old news. For those that dont know, the folks in hong kong are at it again... they even put the logo and serial number on these: http://cgi.ebay.com/AIMPOINT-M2-Red-MilDot-Sight-With-Cantilever-Mount_W0QQitemZ270200780038QQihZ017QQcategoryZ66827QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem The sad thing is that Aimpoint isnt very quick at responding to my requests about how to tell a clone from the real deal or check my serial number. I think they have one receptionist and she's always with another caller Take a look at this guys other auctions... Knights Armament Rails, LMT Buis, Eotechs, Vltor stocks... I just wish they'd leave the brand names off them. ***Update*** Aimpoint called back today and explained that they are down to one receptionist and apologized for the delay. They also told me some of the common ways to spot a fake: 1. The on/off switch on an aimpoint will have 9 clicks on and will not turn beyond that point whereas the clones will turn a complete 360 degrees back to the off position. 2. Windage and elevation screws will look like drywall screws. (cheap) 3. Model number of the commonly copied CompM2's utilizes the Aimpoint model number of the CompML2. 4. I was also given the most commonly faked serial number... but it's written down in the car. I'll update when I get it. I was also told that one of the big importers of these things is rumored to have a booth at the next shot show... be sure to stop by and tell him what you think of his copies. |
