| Anyone have anything on the EOTech HOLOgraphic Weapon Sight 557 AR223 (M557) Night Vision Compatible? |
| I don't know if I'm right, but from what I've read, the 557 is a bit taller for the 1/3 co-witness. It's just like the 553 in that it's taller than the other models. Also, the mounting bracket is a bit larger I think. It uses AA batteries and is the largest EO-tech yet I think. Last, but not least, the controls have been moved to the side for ease of use with a magnifier. This model has been often marketed with the 4x magnifier that EOTech put out. The whole setup is pretty large in my opinion from what I can see. Oh yeah, and the 557 has the 223 bdc reticle instead of the donut with dot. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |

Com'on guys, Google is our friend. Information on this item isn't exactly top secret. EO Tech 557 |
You are correct. Personally from looking at the reticle I wont be buying one unless they come out with their standard A.65 reticle on it. Those 4 dots look pretty in a graphic but will cloud the view. I also dont understand why you need a 600M dot on a CQB sight, and if they even expect you to hit a person with an un-magnified optic, a 1moa dot, and during combat at 600M? I know its built to be used with their flip down magnifier but IMHO the sight should be able to work independantly of the magnifier. Ive never liked the idea of co-witnessing with irons so Im glad they are coming out with models that do away with that. Next week Im going to be getting a FDE 553 to replace my 552 just for that reason, and also to get all my gadgets working on one battery type. |
I had it down to the 557 and 553 when I went shopping earlier this month. I decided on the 553 because of the smaller footprint, commonality of batteries with flashlights (CR123), and the fact I didn't like the 4 dots. It's too cluttered for something that's made for close-in shooting. Hell, I don't think I could even see the target at 600 meters with 1x magnification. ![]() If you know for sure you are going to go with the 4x magnifier as well, then it makes more sense. But I will always use the EoTech alone, so the 553 made more sense for me. |
| If you want 1/3 co-witness, you can also consider getting a LaRue LT-110 mount to stick your 552/512 on. You can get a 552 or 512 at a significantly lower price than the 553/557 right now. Then you also have the QD option. LaRue's a top-notch company and their mounts are built tougher than a tank. |
