I went to Gander Mountain in Hattiesburg today and they had scopes mounted to fake rifle stocks for everyone to look through. This was my first look through an ACOG and it was a TA31RCO-A4.

I love this optic! Crystal clear, very light, very bright illuminated chevron, I inconspicuously pointed the fake stock with an ACOG on it at people in the store and realized that it would also be a great CQB optic for ranges down to about 25 Meters.

At 25 meters it was easy to put the chevron on people's heads and across the store center mass placement of the chevron was amazingly quick even though the people were walking around in between racks of clothes and crap at about 100 meters away.

About 40 to 50 meters seemed to be a grey area though. The optic was very capable of focusing on head shots at this distance but target acquisition was a bit slow because the people were just far enough away to be out of the field of view if the optic was brought up quickly and not pointed directly at them. I guess that practice could quicken this up, I am not used to shouldering quickly and pointing a magnified optic at people. If they walk a few feet in the time that it takes you to bring the stock into your shoulder and get the proper eye relief they could be out of the field of view because of the magnification.

The BAC reticle was nice, but in the store environment I had the opportunity to try to place it on many different colored objects and it was about impossible to see if rested on a dark colored object.

The only complaints that I have heard about the ACOG is that the eye relief is only about 1.5 inches and thus not very long, but guess what... to get the proper sight picture on your irons the eye relief is even closer! So the eye relief was not an issue in my mind. The only things I didn't like about the ACOG was its height (pretty tall), but I guess that is needed so that the front sight post does not obscure the optic, and the fact that the top of the BDC tower is illuminated. I think it would've had a sharper reticle if the chevron was the only point of illumination, but the top of the BDC tower just makes the chevron seem too busy. The only way I can think of to improve the ACOG would be to remove the illumination from the top point on the verticle line right below the chevron and to place a small dot of illumination at the cross hairs on each point of the BAC crosshairs.

So what do you guys think about the TA31F style ACOGs? I will definitely have one on my AR as soon as I can afford it (probably next year).

Personally it's a toss up for me between the TA-11F and TA-31F. TA-31F is lighter, but TA-11F is faster and more versital in a high movement situation.

ACOGs are nice.

I would love to have a TA11 and a TA01.

I want a TA01 for my A2 Clone (issued for MEUSOC back in the day) and a TA11 for my "perfect rifle" build.

I'm torn between the TA31F and the TA33 myself.

I have a TA01NSN and a TA31RCO-A4, I like the 'RCO-A4 a lot more. As for eye relief, I have never found it to be a problem.

Have TA31RCOA4.  The only time I find eye relief to be a problem is on a rifle with an A2 stock and BUIS.

What distance did you guys zero your TA31RCO A-4s?

100 yards.  As I don't often have 36yrds or 300 available...

The guys that have used them a lot seem to favor the TA 11 over the TA31.  I originally wanted a TA31F due to the wider FOV, however, I recently traded for a TA11E and I am very happy with it (according to Bartholomew_Roberts Big ACOG BDC Chart, the .308 BDC of the TA11E is great match for my intended rifle/ammo combination 16"bbl/75 gr. OTM).

The TA11 has longer eye relief and a larger exit pupil (in comparison with the TA31 series), and this makes it more user friendly - much easier to get onto the target quickly.  I was truly amazed at the light transmission/low-light performance.

This what BAC is for and you obviously are not understanding what BAC is.  You overlap the reticle from the right eye onto the target with tehleft eye and when you stop moving the optic... bingo the target is in the middle of your scope.

The BAC reticle was nice, but in the store environment I had the opportunity to try to place it on many different colored objects and it was about impossible to see if rested on a dark colored object.

The ACOG is no higher than the iron sights.  If it were any lower it would be too low to actually see through... you must have had the optic in a carry handle mount?  That is not the ideal location for an ACOG.

Here is another complaint since you have not heard any other than eye relief.  The BAC feature is not a replacement for a real 1X optic because the POA/POI wont coincide and can be difficult to use.  Another would be the illumination does not work in the dark indoors with a weaponlight and thus the BAC feature wont work in that situation.

The less reticle is lit the less the BAC works.  The top of the post is 200 yards and the bottom 300.  Remove the illuminated portion and you lose BAC ease of use and the ranging points in low light.  I am a bit confused about the BAC crosshairs comment.  Without illumination there can be no BAC so the ranging ladder has nothing to do with BAC if that is what you are talking about.

I think TA31s are great.  The eye relief is a little short and they need some sort of 1X option to be a real all around close to intermediate optic.  I would prefer the reticle in the TA31DOC with crosshairs and ranging for all distances illuminated.  Id prefer something more rugged than the Dr Optic up top.

Trijicon ACOGS are to me one of the beat AR15 optic you can get.  They are not as fast as an EoTech or an Aimpoint but they are fast and the can do midrange work also.  I like the TA11’s and the add eye-relief is nice but not needed.  To me TA31 models have enough for me eye-relief for me.  The TA31DOC and the TA31TRD are very cool.

We have in stock
TA31
TA31A
TA31RCO-A4
TA31DOC
TA31TRD
TA11
TA55
