I am shooting M855 out of 20 inch and 16 inch barrels. I believe that for a completely perpendicular cross-wind you compensate 1 inch for every 10 mph. Well today I was trying to verify a zero with a dissapator style build at the range and had about a 20-25 mph wind right at my back (blowing in the direction I was shooting). All of my groups were about 2 inches high at 50 yards. I packed up and came home because I didn't want to make any adjustments to my zero. How does wind in the direction you are shooting affect trajectory? It seems to make sense that 20 mph wind right at your back would affect bullet trajectory and drop. Does anyone know of any reasources available on this stuff? eta: Any info on where to read about tempatures versus .223 would be appreciated also! |
Go to the home page of this site (www.AR15.com) on the left side look for the Downloads/Manuals link. Follow that link and download FM 23-9 - which is the older version of the Army M16 marksmanship guide. That manual covers how wind effects your bullets and how you need to compensate (look around page 200). |
