BOTH ARE THE BEST YOU CAN GET!!

I have both

but like my AIMPOINT  Better
My reason are mostly BATTERY LIFE 10 years never worry
adjustment knob

I SHOOT THE SAME GROUPS WITH BOTH TYPE OUT TO 220yards BERM

EOTECH 551 has 1 moa dot plus a circle for CLOSE UP RANGE
AIMPOINT ML2 has 4moa dot

THE EOTECH COMES WITH ITS OWN MOUNT BIG +1

This question comes up a lot ... so I have a canned answer for it..

---------------------------------
I have both, and they are both great. However, if I had to choose just one, it might have to be Eotech. But you really can't go wrong with either.

Advantages of Eotech:

- Eotechs are faster. That 65 MOA outer ring makes it easy to naturally place on target and his very fast. Nothing is faster.

- Eotech is cheaper. A Eotech 512 will run you about $350. A Aimpoint ML2 will run you about $480 (with mount).

- Eotech is more precise. The 1 MOA center dot of the Eotech is great for long range precision work. The 4 MOA dot on the Aimpoint will flood targets past 100 yards. Not a big deal if you are use to irons, and guys can still be accurate with irons, but I like my site to be smaller than my target.

- Eotechs is easier to use in the bright sunlight. Even if your Aimpoint has the 4 MOA dot, it takes a little extra concentration to see the dot, while it takes no effort to see the 65 MOA ring of the Eotech.

- Eotech has larger Field of View. This is nit pick as both are suppose be used with both eyes open, so Field of View is not an issue.

- Eotech you do not have to be inline. This is another nit pick. Both have infinite eye relief, but with the Eotech you can be off to the side a little and still be able to use it. With Aimpoint you have to be directly behind it like a magnified scope.

Advantages of Aimpoint:

- Aimpoint has Long Battery Life. You can leave the Aimpioint on for a whole year before the battery runs out (5 years if you have the M3 or ML3). You could throw the gun in the back crew cab of your truck and forget about it, or turn it on before you go to bed and it will be ready to go at any time. Eotech says 1100 hours, but I don't know about that as I already have changed the battery on my Eotech twice and I don't even leave it on for extended period of time.

- Aimpoint Looks better. Nothing looks better on an M4 than an Aimpoint.... If you don't count ACOGs

- Aimpoint is more water resitant. Eotech claims water proof to 10 feet. Aimpoint claims 75 feet. I have not thrown either in the water to confirm this.

- Aimpoint is more rugged. This is arguable, but the Aimpoint just appears to be better built. Eotech appears it could be taken out with one good bang while I can't see any way to take out an Aimpoint.

Once you get use to one, it would be harder to like the other one. For me I switch frequently between the 2 so I am not really locked into just one. Good to be proficient in everything you possibly can, because when the SHTF, you never know what you are going to be stuck with.

This is Excellenet!!! I'm looking to be getting either one for christmas, shot a buddies EOTech not too long ago and loved it. But I'm quite interested in Aimpoints, in fact that's what I'm leaning toward buying.

EricCartman,

I'm pretty sure it's 10 meter depth on an Eotech, not 10ft. (Which is 1 atmosphere IRRC. )

At least I know it is on my 552. (If you can't tell I'm an Eotech fanboy :)  )

Otherwise, good writeup. I've found mostly it's personal preference between the Eotech and Aimpoints.

No you don't. If that was true then you would be better off with a magnified scope. Like Eotechs, Aimpoints are for quick target acquisition. Which means the shooter does not have to be in perfect position to aim. Just place the red dot on target and pull trigger.

Good write up otherwise.

there should really be a tagged thread for this, i mean crap theres one for the knockoff chicom aimpoint... come on.

I have eotech, i like it, i understand the aimpoint thing too

Definetly get the AA 512,512 or the 553 eotech if you do. the n cells battery life blows, and you cant get litums for them, the AA are readily available and last 5 times as long according to eotech.

ETA: both aimpoint and eotech are parralax free, you dont have to be "right behind them" its just harder to see the aimpoint, if your off of it more bc of where the dot is generated in the sight.

Eotechs have the bad habit of sudden failure.

I've seen 2 rev F units die: 1 at the range, 1 at a rifle match. Both were not battery failures and were corrected by leaving the batteries out overnight.

I got my aimpoint (M2) and my partner has his eotech (552). Were going for a few hrs this weekend to test them while we shoot and then compare them. I'll report back.

REPORT:

This is from what my bud and I tested, and got into the whole Budlight and Budweiser pissing contest...but all I need to say is Im glad I went with the Aimpot. It was much easier having the dot on the target and faster then the eotech for me. The Eotech was good too, but not as great as the Aimpoint. As far as the battery life time. We both left our sights on from last night til about mid-afternoon and notice that the Eotech center dot went dead. We took a battery tester and sure enough it was at 10% active, we use standard batteriers and nothing fancy, but the Aimpoint was still working. The thing I really like about the Eotech was the size of the glass. A bit bigger from aimpoint. As far as weight, didnt notice any. Now were reseraching on the 3x mags.
Just my 2 cents,...
