| Let me see if I have this right: with a flattop receiver, you can mount an optical sighting device that will put the center of the reticle/dot right on top of the front sight post. A back-up rear sight can be mounted with the optic, and when sighting through the rear sight, the correct iron sight picture will also have the center of the optic reticle on the front sight post and in the center of the rear aperture. This is called 'co-witness' wherein the rifle remains sighted with or without the optical device as long as both the iron sights and optical device were aligned to the same zero. |
|
You have two types of co-witness: - absolute co-witness - lower 1/3rd co-witness. Absolute co-witness will put your optics dot in line with your iron sights. Lower 1/3rd co-witness will put your iron sights in the lower 1/3rd of your optics window making your field of view less cluttered when using your optic. |
