I know, I know, just buy the real thing and that is probably what I will end up doing. I am a newb when it comes to optics so I am just asking, is there a ACOG clone that is anywhere close to the real thing for substanial savings? Can anyone recommend a website or even a book that would be a primer on ACOGs and how they work, especially the bullet drop compensator? Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can share.
Thanks

No clones that come close to the real thing.  There are some optics that look similar, but are 1x red dot sights. Not in the same class at all.

Try checking out Trijicons website for more info.  the link is at the top of the page near the AR15.com logo.

Its good for 22lr guns, but not enough people have tested them on 223 rifles and such to be sure on quality. Last I heard it was a good enough copy for Trij to flip it's shit and sue the maker.

You can get a much better price on a conventional 4x fixed power scope than what they are asking for the ACOG clones.

Try this:

I bought their red dot sight and it works just fine for range plinking.
