When using a red dot sight, does it matter where the dot is? By that I mean if I look at the dot from the side is it still on the target? If I look at the dot directly behind the sight then it should be right on target. In other words I can move the dot by moving my eye around. Is the dot always on the sight?

What you are describing is known as parallax.  As long as the sight is parallax free, like an Aimpoint, it doesn't matter where the dot is in the lens.  You don't have to have it lined up with anything.  Put the dot on the target and press the trigger.  It's that simple.

Thank you for the info. Does anyone know if the Bushnell Holosights are parallax free?

As far as I know the Bushnell/EO Tech and Aimpoint all behave the same with parallax.  Where the dot is, the bullet will follow.

For all practical purposes; yes.

It's worth noting that inside 20 yards or so there will be some parallax error, even on a "parallax free" optic.
