This is my first time mounting a serious optic on my AR, so I need some advice. Basically, I have a new Aimpoint CompC3 MOA 2 to mount on a 10.5" flattop. The Aimpoint came with a mount, but it's the very low standard mount, far too low to mount directly to the flattop. So, my dilema is, should I just get a riser? Or should I pick up a new mount altogether such as the QRP?

I use a QRP and like it alot but even then you will need the QRP with the spacer, which is only about 10.00 more.

I would get a LaRue LT-129 or LT-150. LaRue Tactical

ETA: DM, are we cruising the board using the same set of waypoints?

+1 for the Larue Tactical mounts.  They are at a perfect height. I'm pretty sure it's a lower 1/3rd co-witness with the irons.  These mounts are WAY nicer than anything ARMS has.  The lever tension adjustment and locking function alone are enough of a reason to go with Larue.  Besides that, they have extra battery storage.  Threaded steel inserts in the rings.  Not even cheaper helicoils, but a full insert!  Also the side that supports the head of the bolt has a steel insert.  They come with torx hardware, an extra bolt , and some locktite. The split ring design makes mounting easy and won't twist your scope while tightening. They look pretty darn cool too!

I have a QRP, and it's a good mount.  The biggest problem is the knob on it is huge!  It can get caught on things and is pretty annoying while the rifle is slung.  Don't ever use one on a side charging system like an FAL.  I put on on my FAL and when I tried to hook the charging handle, I ended up grabbing the QRP instead.
