Howdy.  Thought I'd poke my head in here and request some advice from folks that know more than I.

Here's the problemo:  I've gotten to the point where I am going to have to put optics on my rifles.  Never used them before and am clueless.

My first endeavor is going to be one of those fake ass Aimpoints.  I've read the posts about them and realize they are sub par to the real thing.  I am an Artist with a daughter in college so funds are limited to say the least.  It will be awhile before I can afford the real McCoy,  so I thought I'd get one of these ersatz fellers to see if I like an Aimpoint enough to cough up the dollars for it in the future.

Okay, after that ramble here's the real question.  I found a site online called Shotplus that claims to have Japanese made Spurious Aimpoints made especially for them.  Supposedly they are water tight and better than the rest of the pack.  Of course, that is from their own web site.

Any of you folks ever heard or dealt with either the site or the optic?

I sure would appreciate any feedback ya'll could hurl my way.  Thank you very much indeed for any and all help.

I know, I know.  It is not the real thing.  I would not trust it were I have to defend myself from hordes of miscreants, reprobates, recidivists or gaggles of angry clowns.  I can however murder some paper and perhaps a groundhog or two.

Thanks again folks!!

i think your better off with iron sights right now than buying that bs cheap stuff, at least the irons dont break, your real cheap red-dot prbly will or at least it wont keep zero, ive been there done that. basically good irons are way more accurate than cheap optics.

killa did you even read his post?  He said he is getting to the point that he needs to use an optic, which I assume means his eyes are starting to get a bit finicky.

As for the original question, if the cost isn't much more for these "better" aimpoint knock-offs, then I would just get one.  Don't feel bad about buying a aimpoint knock-off, since aimpoint is a Swedish company, and lord knows we don't want to give any more money to those socialist, scandi whores, than we have to.''

Seriously though, if you have problems with astigmatism, make sure your contacts or glasses are corrected for such, otherwise your std. red dot site will look more like blob with tentacles.

ive never seen anybody have problems with iron sights, but im still young and so all my associates so maybe when im older i might, but if you cant see through iron sights will unmagnified reflex sights be any more accurate?

Yes.  One point to focus on.  I don't know how old you are, but rest assured that the age at which you will see a difference will sneak up on you!  FWIW, I'm 44, can still use (and enjoy) irons, but some days my tired old peepers sure like the glass.

No problemo.

My first endeavor is going to be one of those fake ass Aimpoints.

Don't get a fake Aimpoint or an airsoft anything, get a Tasco Propoint.  They are inexpensive, reliable and work really well.

Thanks folks!  I do appreciate the help as I think I mentioned that I am pretty ignorant in regard to much of this stuff.  Most of what I have learned of the AR has come from this site and it seems to be a never ending supply of good info.

Yeah, iron sights.  I've shot through irons all my life.  Always hunted Elk with irons.  First on an old British .303 and then a Marlin lever 45-70.  Consequently I never shot as many as my podjos equipped with optics and bolts but I guess I got pretty good at sneaking around in the woods.

Now that I'm an old goober my eyes are revolting on me and it is time to learn about and add optics to my gear.  I expect a scope for hunting rifles is next.

I will check out the Tasco clones as well.  Thanks for that suggestions.

Hey, thanks for mentioning astigmatism.  Didn't even consider that as part of the package.

Again, much thanks.  This is a great site fellers.   Anything else would sure be appreciated as well.
