How would you be able to tell if you bought a fake? I read about the Comp4 and thought the dot was supposed to stay on target irrespective of your position behind the optic. I purchase one here for what I thought to be much less than other places, but when I opened it up and powered it on, I was suprised to see that the dot seemed to move about alot when I changed position. Anyone know how to spot a fake aimpoint? I don't want to attack the seller, because I'm not speaking from a position of absolute knowledge, but at the same time, it was expensive and I don't want a fake that's only 100 bucks cheaper than the real deal.

It came in a white box with a black and white aimpoint label. In the box, the optic was housed in grey foam. The box contained the optic, a battery, the rubber lens covers and the glare stopper for the front lense to keep you from giving away your position.

It has a made in Sweden mark on the optic.

I had not heard they copied the m4 yet, but it would concern me when the main site sponser is an airsoft company.

LOL! I hadn't seen that banner yet. Usually I get an ad for ceramic knives or hunting stuff... At any rate, Aimpoint does have these all over for sale. This was the 'best' deal I could find. Most places had them for 700+... I'm really looking for a way to either look at the optic and determine if it is a knockoff or a way to tell if it is fake by what it came in, where it came from or how it performs. This is my first Aimpoint.

Thanks for your help though.

well if it's got made in sweden and you paid $600 for it I would say it's real.

If not it's gonna be hard to determine how.  If there is a serial number on it like the older models call Aimpoint and simply ask them and verify.

ETA: noticed it came w/ the gray foam, rubber caps, killflash, etc.  My guess is it would be real at this point.  I've never known of any knockoffs that do that.

On the covers....is the word AIMPOINT stamped across the front of the front cap?

h.gif I know what I'm asking seems stupid. Calling aimpoint was a last resort (I'm not to keen on automated customer service lines). Thought maybe someone in this community would know. Perhaps you're right though, and I may just spend the cell phone minutes to call Aimpoint.

here's an idea mount it on the gun and see if it stays on zero when you move around......
my fakepoint and eotech both seem to move around, but the funny thing is when you shoot them they are actually still on target.

Your packaging and description of what was inside match that of my M4.  Mine was purchased from a dealer on this board with a very good rep, for a few dollars less than your linked ad's price.

Have you tried looking through it with it mounted?

Another good sign for at least one if not both of us is that your serial number is different from mine (although surprisingly close - our sights mighta been buds back on the assembly line).

I'd still put money on it that it's real.

I have a real M4... at least I hope it is.  ;)

Your's sounds OK.  The dot will move a little close up (up to maybe 25 meters), but it is mostly an illusion...   try shooting it and see how the groups are.

FWIW, mine came in a white box with a black and white label, gray foam inside the whole deal. I think you're fine.
