Most call it a cantilever style mount.

I know larue makes some real nice ones that will extend out nicely but I am not dropped that much cash on a scope mount. Also looking for a permanent mount not a QD setup.

Who makes a mount like this larue for a better price and without QD

I know HYM makes a few but they look to raise the height to much.

A canteliever mount is one that drops off a cary handle to forearm level.

There are a coupke lower dollar ones that have built in scope rings.  I have a model one that I like.  I heare Armalite makes one too.

A lot depends on how far you want it to extend, and whether you'll want to put a BUIS behind it.

Most of them are 1/2" risers, which will put most scopes at a good height with medium rings or high rings, depending on your preference.

ARMS, GG&G, YHM, and RRA make solid extension rails, but it can be tricky to find one that you can mount a BUIS behind.  The ARMS 38 EX or SEX have the ARMS 40 BUIS built in.

Here's a pic of the RRA scout rail, which I like a lot because it's solid and long (I need a lot of eye relief).  There's no room behind it for a BUIS, though, and it's got semi-quick disconnect thumbscrews that protrude a bit.

Here's the GG&G scout rail, which is lower, and has room behind it for a BUIS if it'll fit in the last slot and clear the rail.  My ARMS 40 mount won't fit behind it, but it would if I took off just a little metal.

Maxicon,

What kind of lower is that (brand)?  Don't think I've ever seen one like that.

That's a Fab 10 California legal fixed-mag closed-well lower from back in the old days - you pull the pin and split it to load it.  Used to be that was about all you could get in California; now we have more choices.

Hey, thanks for the reply, and info.  I've NEVER seen anything like that.  Glad you now have more choices, but it's a real shame you have to put up with all the firearms BS that is imposed on you.

ETA: what size rings do you have to use on the RRA rail to get the scope to the proper height?   I'm considering getting that rail.

Yeah, things are definitely better here, thanks to a dedicated group of WECSOGs over at calguns.net.  Not up to Free America standards yet, but every little bit helps.

Those are Warne Maxima QD medium rings I have on that scope, and are about 0.5" high.  This gives 1" total with the 1/2" rail, and works well for me.  I'm not sure what height you need to give an absolute co-witness - I have it here somewhere, but can't find it just now...
