Is there a way to remove the A.R.M.S. mount on the 553 and replace it with a Larue mount?  Does Larue make a direct replacement mount for the 553?

Not yet
With repeated closing and opening, I'm pretty sure the steel pad on mine will wear out and allow the mount to move back and forth like my two 19S mounts do
If LaRue does make one, I hope they make a single throw lever version so the front bottom of the 553 can clear the handguard ring, allowing it to be mounted further forward

Does the 553 co-witness in the lower third or dead center like the 552?

I'm pretty sure it co-witnesses dead center, since it is taller with the new mount.

I thought lower third becasue of the height.  512/552 provide absolute cowitness unless mounted on a riser.  The 553 includes the riser and I'm pretty certain it provides lower third cowitness.

There is nothing wrong with the mounting system that comes with the EOTech. 553. It works flawless and it holds rock solid.
and yes is does co-witnesses dead center with properly mounted iron sights.

Yes we know ARMS mounts loosen up but seriously who the fuck takes their optic off enough to wear the mounts out?  For the avg. shooter I should say.....

Ah flanker....... there have been several issues with the 553  arms levers  coming loose. .

I have one of them  that after a  few magazines during training they   front mount works loose....Eo has taken  of that and corrected it fast. i might add.......

ARMS  levers are for shit. and guess what mine wasnt being removed bunt once in a while to check repeatablity.

as for taking it on and off its not that,. the levers work loose under recoil...... to were i can physically  push them in..... to re secure the unit,.

UUUHHH...... the 553 sits higher because of the mount, so properly mounted iron sights should co-witness in the lower third of the optic. And yes, ARMS mounts are shit.
