What's the consensus of carry handle scope mounts?  Any of them any good?  I've got an A2 style AR and my handiwork with iron sights just doesn't impress me at all.  I'd like to scope that bad boy and really see what's up.  My only options for a scope seem to be either a gooseneck mount or one on the carry handle.  I'm leaning towards the carry handle one, maybe with a fairly okay 6-9x scope.  Any carry handle mount brands I should look into?  I kinda like the Famous Maker one that AIM Surplus sells for $10, but that that price, I'm leery of quality and stability.

Take a look at the ARMS #2 mount.  It is for the carry handle on A1/A2 models.  I have one and it works great.

The main problem with the ARMS #02 is that it's not Picatinny spec on the slots - the size is right, but the spacing is all wrong, and you lose some flexibility.  The extended version, ARMS #02EX, is both longer and appears to have Picatinny standard spacing, both of which are good.

The problem with this type of mount is that the scope is really high, and it's hard to get a good cheek weld without a cheek riser or something similar.  I used this on the rifle below to get some tight groups, but it's really not practical for daily shooting, IMO.

After that, there's the gooseneck and the railed handguard, both of which work for non-magnified optics, but aren't so good with most magnified optics.  The railed handguard can work well with an extended eye relief scope (scout or handgun scope), but that limits you to lower magnifications, and you need a sturdy handguard to avoid possible zero shift.

I much prefer a lower red dot or holosight over a super-high magnified optic on the carry handle.  Accuracy's not as good, but it's not bad, and a lot more fun to shoot.

Here's a pic of a Leupold VX1 4-12x mounted on an ARMS #2 - way too high for me:

and an Aimpoint clone mounted on the handguard rail, which gives absolute co-witness with this cantilever mount:

I have a Leupold mount.  Lost some of the sight picture off the bottom, but not a big deal.  Fits in the handle great.

Maxicon,
What rings are you using?  They look very high to me.  I am using ARMS #21 STANAG rings and they are a low height ring.

Those are Leupold QRW medium height.  I could go with low rings for this mount, since ocular clearance isn't a problem, but this scope usually wears the mediums for switching around on other rifles, and I didn't plan on leaving it on this one.

Going to lows in this same ring would only lower the scope by 0.12".  Dunno how they compare the the ARMS #21.

If you figure the carry handle sight is the standard eye height, there's really no way to mount a scope on top of it that will be easy to shoot with (for me, at least) unless you have a cheek riser.  Between the height of the ARMS mount, the rings, and the 1" tube, the scope's centerline is probably a minimum of 1" above the A2 sight aperture.

Of course, optics height and eye relief preferences are different for everyone.

If you are looking for a low cost mount we sell the PM02 for $15.00.

We also sell the Lepold and the ARMS mont as well.
