MOA is Minute of Angle and if you the degrees, minutes calculation for a circle with a 100 yard radius, 200 yard diameter, the number works out to be about 1.05 inches... For a circle with a radius of 100 yards, you are in the middle. The circulference is equal to pi x diameter....3.1416 x 200 yards or 628 yards. Converted to inches the circumference is equal to 22,608 inches. A circle is divided into 360 degrees and each degree is then divided into 60 minutes and each minute is then divided into 60 seconds....we will not worry with seconds in the calculation, we are asking minute of angle. If you divide 22608 inches by 360 x 60 or 21600, you get an answer of 1.0472 inches, or in round terms 1 inch, 1 MOA... What this means is at 100 yards, 1 minute of angle subintends a length of about 1"... Now on to your question....a 4 MOA dot means it will cover a 4 inch target at 100 yards...drilling down. If the target is 3 inches high or diameter at 100 yards, the 4 MOA dot will cover it, the 2 MOA will not. A 2 MOA dot will cover 2 inches at 100 yards, 1 inch at 50 yards and so on with the ratio. I like a 2 MOA dot, but as my eyes are getting weaker, I will be warming up to a 4 MOA dot. A lot of words and details, but when a math question comes up, my fingers start typing. 77Bronc |

I like the 1 MOA dot in the center of the Eotech reticle. Ultimately - the smaller the dot, the easier it should be to shoot a tighter group at long distances. I don't like 4 MOA dots - at 100 yards, they cover too much of the target. Visit: ps90forum.com |

Hey Clasky, A nerd I am not, believe me....gun shooting, atv riding, truck rebuilding.....Mechanical Engineer, yes I am.....senior consulatant engineer for a major oil company....yes thats me... I just like numbers, and guns, the balistics and trajectory of bullets and drop compensation, mil dot calculations...OH BOY!!!...don't get me started, then I can really spout the figures.... I like guns for the math, building and cleaning....would rather design, build and clean than shoot. Just playing.....I have just never been called a nerd before, ugly and fat yes.... Take care Guys. 77 |
Just kidding , bro. I lift weights, shoot guns, trail hike, drink beer, mountain bike, etc., but I'm still a nerd |
