What do you want this scope to be able to do for you?

At what ranges are you intending on using this scope?

YMMV, but if you want consistency, repeatability and precision you are probably NOT going to get it from a $100 scope, that said it you want a "set it at one range" (100 or 200 yards) hunting type scope and do not intend shooting long distances then almost any low-end scope will suffice.

One of you choices listed "turrets and BDC wheels" giving the indication that longer ranges maybe something you want your scope to do. These are your choices and directly relate to the 2 questions above, but the decision on your choice must be made before you waste money on scopes that will not perform up to your expectations.

Precision optics cost and that's why they cost, because they are precise.

I have had good luck with a Simmons 44 Mag 6.5X 20 with target turrets, if you can find one - they have been discontinued.

Mr Wilson is absolutely right!!!!   I have experimented with numerous scopes from 50.00 to 150.00 bucks, and neve was completely satisfied.  From BSA, Tasco, and NcStar.  the only thing halfway decent was the NcStar.  I ended buying a Leupold MK4 LRT and I wont go back to cheap optics.  Save your money and get the good stuff!  Im not knocking the other scopes, they have some good red dots and the NcStar does wonders on my M4-gery, but if you are shooting .308 and larger, get a good scope that can handle the recoil.

It's been my experience that the Bushnell Banner's are pretty decent for the money.

The best of the best in the $100 range is Nikon Prostaff. Hands down unbeatable.

You will not beat the optical quality of the Nikon at that price. Period.

I'd rather have a refurb Nikon than a blurroptic with bells and whistles....

The Nikon should be fine, and will be clear.  I'm sure they did not let it leave the factory unless it was up to par, and besides...someone else paid the sticker shock :)

take your $100 and buy a bushnell, or other mid-range, red-dot 1x scope for $75, use the extra $25 to buy some good 30mm rings.  The rings that come with the scope are s**t.

This setup will shoot better than any $100 magnified scope.

You'll have more fun with the red-dot scope, they're great for rapid firing.

You can always buy another scope when your monopoly funds mature

I agree.  I've tried cheap scopes and every friggin time, they have died on me.  I see the limitations of $100 being tough to fill.  A Burris fullfield is a nice scope at a reasonable price, as well as the Nikon.  I would avoid the NcStar etc.  One thing I've decided that the optic I buy should match the value and capabilities of the rifle I put it on.

I have always heard good things about Nikon.  I brought up Cabelas because they have always seemed to be a reputable company...at least when i have dealt with them.

Right now i guess i am leaning towards the Nikon... Anyone dealt with Cabela brand scopes?

Texasgunman-
Did you buy one of those Tasco's?  If so, how has it heald up?

Here's my $65 6.5x24x42 Trashco on my equally cheap 17HMR.

The Trashco works great for this application.

I thought about putting it on my new AR as a temporary scope, but the Collective would probably have me burned at the stake for putting a $65 scope on a $1000 rifle.

For a low budget low recoil setup, the Trashco is just fine.

Of the choices given, stay away from gimmicky stuff, get the Nikon.
