Wow!  Those threads with all the different optics and reticles are fabulous!

I am trying to pick out an optical sight for my 6920 when it arrives.

But I'm left with a few questions...
1.  I can see the main optics for close in work are EOTech, Aimpoint and ACOG.  They all look amazing.  After some research here and elswhere I am swaying towards the EOTech M553 or M557.  I like the shape of the circle and dot.

But can someone please explain, briefly, the pros and cons or best applications for these three main types?

2.  As far as batteries go, there seems to be three main types: N, AA, and CR123.  it seems like the N type doesn't last nearly as long as the other two types.  What is the preference here?

3.  Back to the EOTechs:  As far as I can tell the 553 is a good choice with the "quick release feature" and seems to be safe to a depth twice as deep as the others.  But the 557 has the controls on the left side instead of the back to be more compatible with night vision scopes behind, but is otherwise more similar to the 552.  Also 557s seem to be backordered until June 2007.  What is the consensus on these?

Thanks again.

IMHO,

Your ACOGs, the fixed 4x scope is best if you're expecting to do mid to long-range shooting, mostly, as well as if you need the capability to do some quick, secondary observation/target ID with them.  The BAC versions are supposed to work pretty well as an OEG for close in fighting, but I would still prefer an Aimpoint or EOTech, no power optic if that was going to be my primary firing.

The Aimpoint and EOTech both seem like excellent battle sights, and will shine in close to mid-range engagements, and it's more or less a matter of preference, though I'd give a slight nod to the EOTech if you're doing a lot of CQB, and want the larger field of view, and the secondary bullseye/crosshair reticule.  For a personal weapon, mostly for range use, you could more or less go whichever way you wanted, as they're all good sights, with the nod the the ACOG, if you want to do further precision work.

As far as batteries, I prefer the AA EOTechs, as they're a lot easier to come by, and the ACOG doesn't use batteries anyways.

No mount needed unless your trying to co-witness thru the lower 3rd of the sight instead of the middle. Then its Larue, GG&G, or YHM, all depends on what you want to pay.

i would get the cr123 one then you can carry just one type of battery to run lights and sights not two plus you get a lower 1/3 cowitness and QD.
