I am currently using an aimpoint ml3 2moa, and would like to be able to reach out with better accuaracy sometimes. I use my ar for hunting hogs, and most of the time my shots are within 100 yards on multiple moving targets. I want something as good as what I have (daytime illumination/true 1x low power), but with the ability to also make a confident 200 yard neck shot on a coyote. I have tried: tr-21 accupoint, compact acog ta-50, eotech, leupold cqt I will not spend more than $1000, so short dot and specter are out. I am looking at a tao1nsn with a mini dot on top, but am concerned with the effect height over bore of the mrd will have on its(mrd) precision out to 100 yards. I am also looking at a 3x magnifier, but the flip mount seems like it would be in the way when flipped and taking it off and on seems really slow. It's for a 16inch lightweight, so length and weight is a factor. |

IOR 1.1-4x cqb ret. Otherwise how do you like the Aim with the front cap down and using both eyes? Yes the Aim2x has a small fov, but going from 1x to 2x is just a thumb flip of the cap away. Enough clarity to go 40 for 40 at the Camp Perry pop-up silhouette course, cheap on EE last year. |

I don't know if the 1.1 of the ior or its daytime reticle is the same as the ml3. The difference is why the accupoint did not work for me. Having the cap down on any optic (occluded) creates the poa/poi shift that seems to be further off at longer distances I think. The difference is why the ta-50 did not work for me. I don't know if the 2x aimpoint is enough mag for me and I have never heard anything good about it, but it seems to work for you. |

Currently the only optic that meets your needs is the Meopta Meostar 1-4X (true 1X, daytime illumination, under $1000) and you will have to use the bottom of the dot to make 200 yard shots, top of the vertical hash for 300 yard shots. Less weight than the 3X magnifier added to your current set up. I use it on an 11.5" barrel, a friend on a 14.5" barrel. |

I have heard that EO Tech is making a zoom for the holosight for longer range engagement. I have several EO Techs and they have never let me down. I had an ACOG for about a week and it got tossed. For bright light conditions I found the ACOG to be a let down, and when engaging targets from a moving vehicle I found the EO Tech was the fastest on target when it counts. But never mind all that, you are after moving hogs (which sounds like a blast), so the same type of target engagement sounds like a winner. I also heard that they may move the EO Tech controls to the side so the zoom could mount flush. I have been out of the loop for a few so this may already be out. -TrCp |
Thanks, I've read a lot of your posts and value your opinion. Is there a reason besides cheekweld that the tao1nsn with mini dot on top is not a good choice? |
