I recently purchased a S&W M&P AR-15 with the flat top upper w/ detatchable carry handle/rear sight. The rifle has the standard front sight/gas block which is not removable. Along with the rifle, I purchased the EOTech model 552 sight. My problem is that when attatching the sight to the flat top portion of the upper reciever, my aiming dot on the sight is in the center of my front sight post. It is nearly impossible to make any type of accuracy shot using the EOTech sight as my target is totally obscured by the front sight post. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to add a riser to the flat top portion of the reciever? Is this normal? Curious to know if anyone else is having this type of problem and if so how did you remedy this. I keep seeing the term "cowitness" which I am assuming is the exact coralation of Dot sight and iron sights aiming at same point of impact. I have not been able to achive this set up as the eotech seems to be always set about half way in to the front sight post which as I mentioned earlier obscures my target. Any advice would be appreciated. |

I plan to buy a RRA flattop, and I too will probably have issue with the front sight being in the way - I don't want to co-witness. I like my field of view unobscured. I think I'll buy that $40 riser from RRA to mount the eotech a little bit higher. At 100 yards or so, it won't really affect the point of aim with the higher mount. And, U won't be using an unmagnified eotech at super long ranges anyway (150 yards and out) - so that inch higher won't matter. I have an Eotech on a PS90, and it sits several inches above the bore. It works fine that way. Only other solution is to pay a smith to change the gas block and put a folding front sight on it. Visit: ps90forum.com |
Sniper, relax you cheek weld just a little and allow the reticle to rise above the FSB. You will still be on target due to the nature of the optics (provided you are zeroed). The situation has been one of the drawbacks of the eotech. Solutions such as a riser have been brought to the market by several manufacturers. You will find a wealth of knowledge on these risers. Some people have no problem with the height, I've never liked the low height. I bought a 553 due to the raised height and batteries. HTH Mitch |
