Looking to spend less than $1000 on an ACOG to mount on my CMMG AR15.  Like to hear some recommendations on which one and why.  I currently have an EOTECH 512, which I love.  Thanks for your help.

PS- If you have one to sell, email me.

Get the TA11F slightly used.  They can be had for under $1000.  I think it is the best ACOG for most of what you would ever use an ACOG for.

TA-31F.  The tip of the chevron makes it a bit easier to shoot with precisely at long ranges than the donut (TA-31) in my experience.

Out of all the ACOG scopes, the models I find most useful (to me anyway) are the TA11D's and TA31A's. I prefer the red triangle reticle to the chevron or the donut. You can use the point for precision shooting and the whole triangle up close.

However, the eye relief is a bit better on the TA11 than the TA31 (2.4" versus 1.5").

Otherwise, if you wanna save more money and go with a more simple reticle, I kinda like the TA01 with "LAPD" reticle. But with those, you have to have them special ordered, meaning it may take a month or two to receive your optic. The TA01 can be bought between $800 and $900.

Here's a link to a fella wanting to sell a TA11D NIB for $825.00 on the EE. It seems many vendors are asking $1100.00 for those these days.

I too have an Eotech which I am in love with.  However with my 50+ year old eyes I really need some magnification.

I just today puchased an ACOG TA33-8, this is the 3x with amber chevron for the .223, from Island Tactical online for $775 no tax & free shipping.

This brand new to the ACOG line and was recommended to me by a guy from Trijicon who has one on his personal AR15,

Quick search on ebay turned up some new TA11's for $950 which leads me to believe they could sell them for $900 if you took out the listing fees and commission ebay takes.

Im also looking at an acog.  Im leaning toward a tao1 because I just like the cross hair reticle.  Is there a reason I should be looking at a different one?  Eye relief, field of veiw or anything else I am missing?    Thanks

Look for a TA31 with the

Red donut of death,

Practice using the BAC, you will not be sorry!

For me, the TA33R8 is the most versatile ACOG model on the market.  Best blend of precision, size, construction, and speed.  Just released in 2007, it hasn't seen the market very long - but I'm convinced those who try it will like it.

I have a 3 page review on it somewhere in this forum...

R = Red Chevron (TA33-R8)

I think the TA33-8 is the Amber version.  I had a hard time picking between the two.  You should head to my review in the optics forum and add your take on it.  There's not much feedback yet on the ACOG since it's so new - I'm sure you're opinion would be well recieved by others.

Thanks for everyone's input.  At this point my preference is the TA31F.  Is there any thing else I should consider before taking the plunge on my first ACOG???

PS- Why does the fiber optic cover get hairline cracks in them?

You may want to consider eye relief and go  with the TA11F.
