Just curious, I read that you DO NOT need to have the reticle centered (example: there can be shadow anywhere in the view finder) in order to score an on target hit. This true? Whenever I shoot my CQT, esp at 3x, I center everything. At 1x, does the reticle have to centered in order for the bullet to hit where it's pointed? Or will this shot be a miss? I haven't had a chance to actually test it so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. Thanks! |

as the CQ/T is a magnified optic there will be a point of impact shift if the reticle is not centered in the tube. However, the difference is slight enough, especially at CQB distances, that it will not so far off point of impact as to prevent you from scoring a solid hit. |
As he said above, it will be "close enough" at close ranges but will still be off at least a little. Even though it turns down to 1x you're still looking through an array of shaped lenses and there will be a little distortion around the edges which will throw off teh POI. |

The shift will be similar whether its 1X or 3X. There is not reduced shift at 1X as the focal distance of the optic is relatively fixed. Move your head around with the target set up perfectly and you will see the reticle move around the target as you move your head. The amount this happens is proportional to the amount of difference your target is from the distancen your optic is focused at. At 100 yards you may not see a difference. At 25 yards and 300 yards it will be more, etc. No optic is parallax free (even an Aimpoint or Eotech) and no magnified optic can even have the reduced parallax of the Aimpoint or Eotech style reticle even if its set to 1X magnification. To reduce parallax in a magnifed optic your reticle and the target should be focused in the same plane. That is why there is adjustbale parallax on long range scopes... to reduce reticle shift when you are not perfectly centered behind the scope by matching the distance of focus of the optic to your target. If you use ANY optic and keep your head centered perfectly there is NO PARALLAX SHIFT. It wont matter how much your focal planes are off or how much the reticl moves when you move your head around. If you get a shift in POI form changing magnifications that is a total different problem due to poor construction of the optic. |
