I have a Surefire M73 rail installed on my AR15 and the SF rail and upper receiver rail are not level (yes I knew this when I bought the rail).  Has anyone had any issues when mounting devices that span the rails (ie. Eotech sight, etc)?  If you ran into an issue, what did you do to correct it?

Thanks.

It generally not a good idea to run optics on non-FF forend.

There was a thread on here a while back where some stated that running an Eotech forward - spanning the gap - caused issues. Some said it did, some said it didn't. Do a search for Eotech and Surefire and see if you get lucky and find the thread.

I've heard about that, but is it really that big of a deal?  It's generally not a good idea to shoot milkjugs filled with gasoline with tracer rounds either but I'm sure people do it.  And I'm not talking about entirely mounting the sight on the SF rail, I'm talking about the sight just hanging over a little past the upper receiver rail.

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. FWIW I mount my 511 and 551 at the forward most position on the receivers.  It overhangs the receiver a bit but because of the short N battery model it doesn't reach as far forward as my rails.  I never have any zeroing problems with either scope.

Surefire made the top rail a bit lower for some reason i still don't understand, maybe it is better for mounting the IR alser.

As far as mounting optic like EOTech forward, i mount my EOTech at the send to third rail slot from the front, most of my battery compartment is hanging over the handguard. You can only do this with the rail ahndguards and slim handguard, you are not able to over hang the EOTech on Surefire M500 and M4 style handguards.

I've never been able to do it with any of my Daniel Defense forends either, and I've had ALL THREE locking ring styles.

surefire m73 with eotech 552
i had some rubbing issues
the quad rail hit the bottom of the eotech, after a while, it created a bur
i just notched the first rail on the surefire, and smoothed out the bur on the eotech
no problems

Dan
Question ?   Is there any problems sighting in with the rail mounted front sight since the M73 is lower than the upper receiver rail ?

I have build a few M4 with DD rails, and I had no problem sending the battery compartment forward.

You have to line up the rail exactly, if it is off a bit, I mean a tiny bit, it will not fit.

If the rail is only rubbing on one side, the rail is off center.

552 going over a KAC RAS.

Mine is setup just like this one except with the Eotech 552 back one or two notches, ARMS #40L and standard FSB.  It works pretty well for me.
