| alright here is what i need. i need my options for an acog. i want to get a 20" target model ar-15 a3 to fill the void as a DMR. so if ya'll could help me out please, what are my options and what are ya'lls choices and why. there are so many i don't know where to start. thanks in advance! |
| The most precise ACOG model is the TA01/TA01NSN. It has more of a traditional crosshair. The TA01 has full red reticle illumation while the NSN model has amber illumination on a small center portion of the reticle. Bear in mind that the TA01 series lack the fiber optic tube, and are thusly only illuminated at night. The BAC ACOGs (the ones with the fiber optic tube on top) have less precise reticles, but allow greater speed, especially at close range. This is because they have a very brightly lit reticle during daylite (from the fiber optic). Of these models, I prefer the Triangle or Chevron reticles for a combination of speed and precision, as compared to the Donut reticle. I own both a compact 3x (TA50-R2) with the red triangle and the TA31F which has a red chevron. I find the triangle to be faster, and the chevron to be more precise. For a DMR type rifle I would go with the TA31F or a TA01. |

thank you sir, you have been a great help, that will get me started, i am gonna check those two models out, another question though how long is the tritium or whatever gonna last? thanks again! Edit: Just checked out the website and the TA31 is exactly the one i had on my rifle in Iraq that is the one i am gonna go with! they are sweet, thanks again! |
That's the one I've used as well. I like the ability to use it in close quarters if the need should arise and there's no time to reomve the ACOG. It doesn't detract accuracy at long range enough to offset the advantages. And the tape thing does help. |

Something I do with my ACOGs to dim the reticle is use bicycle inner tube. I take a section of tube and cut out a chunk in the middle (picture a full circle or M16 carrier), then fit the circle ends over either end of the scope. I realize my description may be less than adequete, and unfortunately I don't have any pictures showing this very well. The result is an adjustable brightness cover, that leaves no residue like tape. It really works quite well and with some fine tuning, you can get the perfect brightness for your liking. |
