Anyone have any opinions about the Zeiss Conquest line?? Im looking to buy a 3.5 - 9 X 50 for my 7mm mag remington 700. Who has the best pricing on Zeiss??? Hunduh |

I just happened to win one in a certain photo contest from SWFA. It's the 3-9X40. I sent it off to Zeiss to have the plex reticle replaced with a mil-dot. The mil-dot is really, really fine...maybe too much so. I have not mounted it yet, but the glass is superb. I was a little surprised, however, at the plastic windage/elevation knobs. I guess they had to cut cost somewhere. |
How much did it cost to have the reticle upgraded? That'd be perfect for my scope! |
85 bucks, shipped. If it has never been mounted, be sure to include a note stating that. I'm thinking they just swapped mine out because it came in a new box. I never did get around to checking the serial number against the "old" one. Be prepared for a wait though. If you need that scope in a hurry, don't do it. I waited for four or five months to get mine back. And, it was a little confusing because I wasn't sure if it was going back to Germany or not. They were ambiguous about that and I got a different answer every month when I called to check up. Overall, I was very happy though. |
Conquests are made in the States, just the glass is made in Germany and shipped over for assembly. At least that's how it was 4 years ago. |
Time's not a problem, my Conquest is "homeless" right now. I got a GREAT deal on it, but it's since been replaced by an ACOG on my AR10 so I've been trying to find a rifle for it. Was thinking about a precision rifle or putting it on my M14, but I didn't think I'd like it in that application since it just has a duplex reticle - but with a mil-dot or the #58 reticle, along with the Zeiss BDC it'd be perfect! |
The only problem you might have, after getting "high" rings, proper cheek weld. I've got several rifles with 44mm objectives, and they aren't much different than the 40's for cheek weld. Not sure how the 50 would be. |

As Thell said, I use a conquest on two differe guns, both heavy in terms of recoil and they work great. As far as the glass. the rifles scopes are made in the USA with german glass (lead free of course) and the Conquest Binos, common misnomer, are made in Hungary with German glass. As far as the 50 mm objective versus the 40mm objective, the 50 was a good buy at the time, however as far as profile goes, I would be fine with a 40. Bang for the buck, they are a great buy for 450-500 bucks. CameraLand out of NYC sells the conquest in packages with other digi scoping optics (items geared for digital cam with spotting scope etc, and its a great way to get 50-100 bucks knocked off the scope if you need one of the other items in the package (range finder, binos, spotting scope) etc. He has the scope matched with leica optics as well as Pentax and Nikon. Anyways, they sell well if you get someone who can look through them and Leupold VX-whatever and a Nikon Monarch and they have the ability to understand light transmission and "light gathering" are not one in the same.... Side by side with any other scope of that price range, the Zeiss wins hands down, especially if you can show the optics side by side at say 615 am or 615 pm....you want to see clarity and crisp sharp images at those times, the edges of the Zeiss will be by far clearer then either the Nikon, or Leupold or for that matter the higher end Burris optics which range from 600-900. hudDuh your in NY, Id suggest going over to 24hourcampfire.com and clicking on the sponsors, CameraLand is a sponsor and is very highly regarded over there as far as a very good priced optics dealer, his Zeiss and Leica pricess often beat Cabelas, Bass Pro and other big wholesalers for example. The drawback for you is the tax... |
