I've been running a 552 mounted on the receiver (pushed forwards to overhang the barrel nut) with a fixed rear and it's been working well.

Just aquired an upper with a RAS-II and I'd like to fit an Eo but there just isn't room! Mounted on the receiver it's just too close to me and there's no room for the BUIS. Mounted up front the window is too small. Mounting on the hump blocks the sights.

Any thoughts? Or do I just need to go buy a 551? (although, I think I'd rather go buy a Samson FF and stick with AA cells)

The RASII is pretty much intended for the M68.  If you are set on using the Eothign you would probably be better off getting a different handguard/rail system.

You could mount in forward of the hump, over the barrel.  I've done this with different FF tubes successfully, but never the RAS 2.

Cheers, I can see a Samson or Troy free-float replacing the RAS2 in the not-to-distant future

stick with the double A version, with lithium batteries it will go 1100 hours instead of the 6 hours with the alk battery, the N version is only 2 hours.

I had this same question and posed to to the brass at Knights Armament. Colonel Dave Lutz personally emailed me back with a picture showing that the 552 is not able to fit on the RASII rail as the 552 is too long and wont clamp properly. I went Aimpoint and never had to look back as it was designed for it- thus the Aimpoint hump built in. Hope that helps.
