I know the best optic to mount on a carry handle would be an ACOG. But I don't have a $900 to spend on an optic. So what are my other options, max for my budget is going to be 3-4 hundred. Any suggestions would be nice. Low to no magnification something compact that works good, I am tired of cheap optics.

The thought had crossed my mind. I was considering something close to the setup in "blackhawk down". That is my fall back, but I was wondering if that was it. I like the eotech better than the aimpoint so i wasn't sure.

Name brand A2 goosneck mount ~$60-$120.  (Avoid the cheapo's made from soft metal.)
Used Eotech 55x ~$300-$350
New Eotech 51x ~$325
New Bushnell 051 ~$225 (made by Eotech)
Used Aimpoint CompXD/CompC/M2/ML2 ~$200-$300

Easy solution.

Get a FF rail and mount a red dot (EOTech or Aimpoint) on the rail.

Alternative:  Strip your upper of all the parts and the barrel, sell it on EE and buy a flattop upper.  Every part on the AR can be taken on/off at home, no gunsmith needed.  Use that advantage and buy a A3 upper.  RRA makes the UTE2 upper if you want a flattop rail and A2 fixed sights.

i had an aimpoint mounted on my carry handle, it was "ok" kinda high though.

an eotech would work like that also but sure looks peculier to me anyway. just doesnt look right.

i would put a railed handguard on it and mount an eotech or aimpoint over the bbl, it works great thats how mine is currently set up.

I have a FF tube and a flat top already. I prefer to have my optics kinda high, I don't find it comfortable to bend my neck very low to see my sights. When I am out of school I'll end up getting an ACOG, I was just wondering what my options were for now.

Pretty good advice from Steven 1513.

On one of my M4A2 carry handle Bushmasters I put a Bennie Cooley mount and a brand new EOTech 551 rev F. I would suggest shopping around the net, because it saved me a few hundred dollars getting both of those brand new. I have noticed that the Bennie Cooley mount (BC-CAM) has gone up in price about $50 to $80+ depending upon where you shop or surf the net within the last year or so.
I actually love this set-up. I also have a Harris Bipod on this carbine too, and a good light. This is my main home defense Bushmaster as it also has a quality 40 rd loaded magazine with m855 ammo.
The EOTech sights are battle-proven CQB and longer range also. I know with my 551 and 552 it is pretty easy to hit what you want at 100+ yards, let alone close in stuff.

Thanks BF.  He said $300-400 tops; Don't know why are others suggesting $400+ solutions.  Guess most folks are made of money!  I've spent $10k+ since the sunset two years ago.  But you can bet every penny was pinched.

If you can turn him on to a $80 BC that would be the ticket.  The BC is one of the best.  But I've never seen them for less than $100.

I have a quad rail on my rifle. The cowitness options don't serve my purpose, I mentioned above and i guess I should have put this in my original post. I actually want the optic on top of the carry handle because I want my optic elevated enough were I don't have to bend my neck down to see through my sights. I really want a 2x compact ACOG w/ red triangle. But thats down the road.

I am probably just going to put a trijicon front sight post and a better light, and leave it to compliment my sniper rig that Im going to be getting next year. Thats If I don't find a good optic. I quess I could get a tactical carry handle and put an eotech on it.
