I have decided to buy a Eotech to use on a m16 and max11 lage upper, could someone please educate me about what I need.
Are there different types of EoTechs and what type of mounting systems are available?  I would prefer a quick mount throw lever system.  Thanks for any info.

511 uses N batteries no night vision setting
512 uses AA batteries no night vision setting
551 uses N batteries with a night vision setting
552 uses AA batteries with a night vision setting
553 uses CR123 batteries has a night vision setting and builtin quick release mount

If you choose a model other than the 553 and you want the quick release levers you will need a different mount.   I would say the two most popular are made by LaRue and GGG.

Well said.
My two cents would be to pony up the $550 for hte 553 model, as it already comes with a QD mount, and uses the CR123 batteries, which will run for over 1000 hours they say, and are compatible with the surefire system.
If money is tight, or if you'd rather spend it on another project, then $300 dollars gets you the 511, which is nice and compact.  I see no need for night vision, unless you have NV, train with NV, and plan on using NV with your gun.
I think the 551/552 series will drop off.  The 553 does everything they do, and better, for about the same price once you add a mount.

Thanks for the info.  That was exactly what I needed to know.

One advantage to the 512/552 Eotech is that is uses std AA batteries, including rechargeables. With a fresh set of lithium AA's they'll get 1,100hrs runtime.
