I have a TA31F dual illumination red chevron. The reticle is very bright under normal light conditions. In very low light to almost dark conditions, my chevron almost disappears. Should the tritium keep the reticle as bright as normal light condiitions, or half as bright or what? The scope is about a year and a half old max (bought it 2nd hand) If needed, can you send them back to Trijicon and have the tritium replaced? Thanks, Mike |

The reticle isn't nearly as bright when lit solely by the tritium lamp. During the day, even not in direct sun light, there's enough ambient light for the fiber optic to gather and it makes the reticle stand out, in direct sun light it's as bright as an Aimpoint in full power setting. It's usable at night, but can't compare to a battery powered reticle |

Kind of what I thought being that the scope was almost brand new. I guess it is best with some ambient light even if only a little. I have tried it in complete darkness and you can see the chevron, but just barely. Hell, even if it did work in total darkness, its TOTAL DARKNESS!!! You aint gonna see your target anyway. I was just curious as to how strong the tritium on its own really was. Thanks, Mike |
Exactly. You wouldn't want the reticle to be as bright as during the day because it would be too much. You wouldn't be able to see your target well. I don't know if you have any expereince with EOTechs and Aimpoints, but if you do, think about how it is when you have them turned on too brightly for the lighting you're in. Even if you don't have it bright enough to bloom, the reticle can still be too bright to use well if not used on the dimmer settings. |
