| Will be primarily used for 100-200 yard target/varmint hunting. No more then $1500 for the scope..what would you guys recommend for something with magnification. This will be going on a POF gas upper 18". Thanks. |

The USO is a stronger scope than the Leupold. The USO has more elevation than the Leupold. They both have nice reticles. More people say the see better out the USO than the Leupold. The price is very close. I use to of he CSGW-ST10s myself. For me, clarity and resolution are critical in a riflescope. This past weekend, I used my precision AR (24 inch, SS barrel, 1:8 twist) in my first 1000 yard competition. I had been using it at the 300 yard prone with great success (for me.) The scope is a Nikon Tactical 2.5-10X44 with an illuminated Mildot reticule. At 300 yards, I had no problems seeing the golf tee that is used to mark the bullet hole through the Nikon, at 10X of course. But when it came to the 1000 yard target, I was worried I might have problems seeing the 3 inch roundel used to mark the bullet hole and so I kept my spotting scope close by but still in its case. I need not have worried; I could see the hit marker fine through the Nikon. I throrougly enjoyed the 1000 yard competition, it was truly an eye-opener. BTW, I could even see a black paster in the white area that was left over from a prior meet. I was truly amazed at how clear the Nikon is. And this one fits in your price range. I don't hit my riflescopes with hammers so I can't say how solid they are but this one seems to be built like a tank. I should also tell you I was worried there would not be enough adjustment for the 1000 yard range; the computer was showing at leat 28 MOAs come up from the 300 yard zero. So a few days prior, I played with the dial; I stopped after 40 MOAs and there was still room. No problems there. The other suggestions are great, I just thought I would add this one to complicate your life. |
