Gonna be picking up an AR in august and i'm tryin to plan on optics for it. Why would someone choose an eotech over an aimpoint or vice versa, what's the real differences in respect to use in different situations, or is there. I understand one is a red dot and the other a holo sight, so i guess the real question is for which situation would you use each one. I'm guessing close quarters would be the situation to use the eotech for quick target aquisition, but this is just a guess. I'm gonna be using my AR for range use and some rabbit boppin, so which sight do ya'll suggest? Is there another brand I should be looking at. Thanks in advance for all your help. Matt The only way to solve global warming is to elect Hilary Clinton, because that is one cold bitch. |

I suggest and EOTech...probably a 512, this one uses AA batteries. It is better (in my eyes) for speed and you can use the center dot for more precise work at longer distances. It uses cheap AA batteries and can get so damn bright......which is a must when shooting in very bright days with snow cover. I had a brand new Aimpoint M2 (or whatever the cool one is They are both good........do some searching on this sight, this topic has been discussed MANY times. Good luck with whichever you end up getting. |

Having used both, I like the Eotech better. I like the precision of the 1moa center dot and the easy to put on target 65moa circle. Both are awesome optics, but very different optics. Try to shoot both if you can. I think personal preference is a larger factor than anything in the debate between the two. I like them both. I prefer the Eotech. But I do not really think of it as "better". I just like it better. |
| Both are good products and it really falls to personal preference. I like the open design of the EoTech, but prefer the 4MOA dot reticle of the Aimpoint. I ended up giving away my ML2 and getting an OKO with steel cover. I found that this was the best solution for me as I got the features I liked of the Aimpoint and the EoTech. If possible you should try out both and see what you like the best. |

That's such an open ended question. Different optics for different applications. For example for CQB I'm "slightly" faster with an Eotech. For midrange, ie 100-250m "I" prefer an Aimpoint. For over 300m an ACOG is the way to go. I haven't played with enough variable powered optics to be able to offer an opinion, but some guys who have swear by them. For an all around optic, I'd stick with the Aimpoint. The new M3 with the 2MOA dot is even better than the M2. It's a rugged, proven sight, whose battery last for freaking ever. The above is what works for me of course. You really need to qualify what distance you plan on doing the majority of your shooting, and then choose the tools that fit your needs and your wallet. |
I had both the EOtech 552 and the Aimpoint M3 4MOA W/Magnifier and I got rid of them and went with a variable scope and a JPoint on top. I would really like to try the new Tripower to see how it works. For me the availability to have the reticle on all the time without having to turn a knob or a switch is a great feature. |

Paul, Other than having to turn a knob, what were other predicating factors in your decision to get rid of your EOTECH and AIMPOINT. If I remember correctly, you are LEO and your shooting scenarios are going to be very up close and personal. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated! Harp |
I have a Eotech on my LMT M4 14.5 and a Aimpoint ML2 on my Bushmaster 14.7 Both are OUTSTANDING But the aimpoint is better STRONGER BETTER LIFE WATER PROOF HIGHER RATED for those reasons I would pick AIMPOINT |
