Well after sometime for using one on my issue weapon I finally have one that I can truely call my own.  I am now the proud owner of a TA31F ACOG.  Pre-deployment gift from my family and friends to keep my 6 safe.  Will be put on my issue M4 and then when back in the state will be sitting on my Bushmaster.  Would have liked the TA31 with donut of death but can't look a gift horse in the mouth (but once back I will follow the the forums saying of get both).  Just thought that I would share the good news.

Is this your first time being deployed??The reason I ask is because I am interested in hearing how you guys feel about the AIMPOINT and the EOTECH.

I dont have enough dough for the ACOG so I was going to settle for one of those. Unless perhaps you can tell me why the ACOG is so much better.

Obviously you trust your life to it so I am interested in hearing your imput.

P.S. Thank-you for what you are doing overthere.

Yes it is my first time being deployed, going over there in the up coming months.

Aimpoint (M68 CCO) vs. the Eotech, I will voted Eotech.  IMHO the Eotech allows a shooter to engage faster and removes some of the common errors that have been found with the Aimpoint (i.e. accidentally turning the Aimpoint on and batteries run out, you loosing the damn battery caps, mount becoming loose).  I also like the ring around the dot, makes engaging a target in CQB simple by if in a hurry I just have to place the target in the center of the ring instead of focusing on one small dot.  It always seemed to me that the red dot of the Aimpoint would vanish for no reason, never had that problem with the Eotech.  The only problem that I have with the Eotech is that I do not find it a good performer for ranges beyond 300m and that many of the Eotech in the arms room are currently unserviceable (i.e broke).  Most of the sights are wore out from the previous deployment that my unit had and the constant range time and field time that we put our weapons and such through.  Most common breakage is the battery compartment looses the one of the "prongs" I guess you would call it, it would be a easy fix if we had extra battery compartments.

The majority of my company, including myself love the ACOG.  There is many issued equipment that I don't particularly like or trust (ie the SAW, the standard M4 buttstock, M145 MGO, ACU's, standard issue loading bearing equipment, etc) (this has also caused me to dish out some cash for a Vltor buttstock, my own tactical tailor RACK and load bearing equipment, sling, etc) but the ACOG is the best thing since sliced bread and I am damn happy that the military didn't put its head up its ass about it.  I have never seen one fail when the shooter needs it.  Only time that I have have seen a ACOG removed from a weapon for repairs was due to either fog in the lens or someone damaged the adjustments by moving them to far.  It does not require batteries, which makes it more reliable.  Engaging targets at long ranges is easier, and due to the BDC makes it more accurate, also the ability to range the target is another plus.  It removes some of the common errors that shooters make (i.e improper cheek weld, change of sight picture), zeroing or firing at actual targets the shooter with the ACOG will normally fire less rounds than the other with the red dot sight and achieve a higher score as well.  It is just as easy to engage a target in CQM or CQB with a ACOG (I tend to use the 800m line to engage a target) as it is with a Eotech or CCO (though it takes some practice).  The only gripe that I have about them is the price, if they had a lower price tag that would mean more could be pruchased.  This is just my opinion though.

Me personally, I would just save up the extra cash and purchase a ACOG, there are some really good deals out there much lower than the MSRP.

Thank you for your service to our country.  Stay safe.

You might want to look into one of those Progressive Machine flip up covers for the objective from MSTN.  I have one on a TA31 and TA31F.   For my eyes, one of the things about switching  targets from far to close range with a 4X ACOG, the view is overwhelming thru the glass despite having both eyes open.  I almost feel like I'm looking at the target cross-eyed.  You may not find this to be an issue.  I like the ability to use the ACOG as an occluded gunsite like the old Armson OEG.  All you have to do is flip the spring loaded cover up.  This item still allows you to use the scopecoat that comes with the ACOG.

See this --> ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=23&t=347717

There is a downside to this.  You can't use a killflash in conjunction with this device.
