I've never had one before and now I have a 511.

When I sight in the EOTech, do I use thte front sight?  In other words, for 100 yard sight in, do I line up the red hologram with the front sight post to aim?  Or do I just use the red hologram?

zero the sight. all of mine at 100yards tend to line up with the front sight "IF" it will cowitness. I have seen others that do not. it's more of a general reference and nice thing if it works out that way.

ZERO the SIGHT to the target, not to the front site post.

You don't need the front sight post.  In fact, now that you mounted your EOTech, take a hacksaw and cut the top of the FSB off.  You don't need it and it only gets in the way.

Before you get that saw....

Try Zeroing it at 25 yrds. Get a feel for it with the front sight post. Zero at 25 yrds.

There are 4,003,874 different ways that people will tell you to do things. I will tell you what worked for me and my EOTech 552 w/ Front Sight still attached.

Look THOUGH the site. Dont focus on the red dot. That is distracting. Look at the target. Line up the Target, then the dot, then try and put the front sight post just under the dot. (Keep both eyes ope if you neeed to.)

Fire 3 rounds, all aiming at the same Center of Mass.

Adjust the EO Tech and continue to fire 3 rounds at a time. Then look , adjust and repeat.

It took me about 30 rounds to be happy with the: Target, Dot, FSP alignment = nice tight shot group at 25yrds.

Then shoot at 50yrds to see where you are at. When you are happy... shoot 3 miles, who cares if people make fun of you shooting a  rifle at 25 yrds. You will be happier later. The instructions say to Zero at 50yrds. Do what you think will work for you.

I just think that Zeroing at a shorter distance with the "Red Dot" Sights will make you more confident / less frusterated with it.

Mine is so tight... Because I got used to looking THROUGH the site instead of at the red dot and letting everything else "Blur Out"

Just my advice. Good Luck!!!

Phil,

First, congratulations on getting the Eotech.

Second, do you have a BUIS for it?  If so, sight in your weapon using your BUIS, then turn on your Eotech, and dial the Eotech reticle to sit on top of the FSP.

When using the Eotech, you do not use the FSP, you only use the Hologram.

If you zero at 25yds, you will be hitting high out to 350yds or so.

Here's where you'll be hitting.

50yds-2.4" high
100yds-6.2" high
150yds-8.7" high
200yds-9.8" high
250yds-9.2" high
300yds-6.6" high
And roughly zeroed at 350

50yds is much better for zeroing.

Yes.  A 50 yard zero is better.

As I Re_Read mine.. yeah... I had to adjust at 50 Yrds. That is why it took me about 30 rounds at 25 to make sure I was going to be close at 50.... But initially making sure you hit paper / Targeting Target.. I started short, then went long.

I didnt mean to give bad advice. Just simple advice. (Started Short - Went Long)

EOTech says to zero at 50yrds. Mine is Zero'ed at 50..and the Bushy likes its new Hat.

I am not that good at posting coherently some times. Fingers work faster than brain.
