| Well after only one year of casual use, my EoTech 551 has failed. I changed out the batteries and it didn't work. I tried another set of batteries and it still didn't work. Either it's stuck on NV, or it's shot? |
I just saw something like this posted a while back ago. It was for a AA version but the fix might be the same for the N batteries. Supposedly you need to let the EOTech capacitors drain all the way by leaving the batteries out for about 10 minutes. After doing this it should work after putting in the new batteries, assuming the new batteries are good. Again, I don't know if this will work on the N battery model but I'd give it a try. BTW, which Rev is your EOTech? |

Did you try to see if you can see it with a NV unit? Just call EoTech and they will hellp you! Mike @ CSGW www.csgunworks.com [email protected] Here’s some testimonials about CS GunWorks for AR15 Board What do YOU have to say about CS GunWorks |
Wow, very cool, that worked! Thanks Edit to add... Rev F |
Glad I could help! |

Thank you search function and Yojimbo! I've only had my 512 for a few weeks and was very annoyed for a moment. What causes this and is there anything we can do to prevent it from happening again? I can really see this occuring at a critical moment. BTW, I had to turn each adjustment knob almost 1 1/2 turns to sight it in. Is that unusual? |

I got my AA Eotech on Ebay. It was carried in Afghanistan and Iraq (and looks like it). Mine is 3 or 4 "revs" old, but I'm still using the lithium batteries that came with it. Granted, it just sits in the safe until I take it the range once a month, but since it already looks like it's been dragged behind a truck, I think it's pretty rugged.

Do not take off your battery compartment when the sight is still on.... what distance are you sighting in...making that kind of adjustment to sight in an optic is not unusual. |
SMG has the answer to the problem. According to the EOTech Customer Service Rep that I spoke with removing the cover with the sight on is what causes it to malfunction. On the issue of battery life - I don't see how 600 to 1100 hours of battery life is a big issue. Sure, it's not 10,000, but changing a $10 set of batteries every 2 years is not a real killer. Even if you have another red dot, if the battery is dead your are no better off than if you had an EOTech with dead batteries. To each his own. 5Shot |
I thought I did turn it off, but I could easily be wrong about that. I did not know about this issue so I was not paying close attention. I had planned to sight it in at 100 yards, but I did not get that chance before taking it to a local pumpkin shoot with the WA group this weekend. I quickly discovered that I was not hitting anything with it, and could see bullet impacts high-right, so I set up a target stand at about 15 yards to test it. Sure enough, the POI was about 3-4 inches high and to the right. I'm just guessing about that as I threw the target away immediately after getting a rough sight in at that distance. After that I was getting consistant hits on small pumpkins out to about 75-80 yards. Many o' punkin got vaporized that day! I plan to do an accurate sight in at the next opportunity. The reason I was surprised is that EOTechs are supposed to be bore sighted at the factory, and my carry handle sight is dead on at 200 yards with the aperture at mechanical zero. Thanks again for the help.
Actually, I really did want an ACOG. I have some minor vision problems with dot type sights that don't occur with ACOGs, but after debating the cost versus the benefits I decided that the additional expense was not worth it for me. |
everything can fail. My original eotech a N battery model pre the 511 model never let me down with a lot of hard use. It was scratched and dinged to hell from snow machine rides to gun calls, and from training but it never let me down. I have seen Aimpoints go down but not often. I shold say I saw one go down at a training. I prefer the Eotech its simply a faster more accurate sight. The Aimpoint is more water proof and has longer battery life. Pat |
I actually agree with you that everything breaks. I have seen a couple of Aimpoints that didnt run right. They were the rode hard put away wet kind. |
