Is there a difference in "ruggedness" between the 51X and the 55X models of the EOTech Holosight?
Or between the N or AA battery models?

I don't need NV capabiilty on my optics.
Be careful - I thought that 2 months ago when I bought a 512.
I now own a 552 also.

No, identical except for the NV settings

Which will lighten one's wallet by about an extra $40.

Cost me an extra $400, since I just had to buy a 2nd unit

My 512 has taken a hard hit or two, but I haven't had any problems with it.
When deciding what to get, I was informed that the ONLY difference was that the 552 had NV, all the other internals were the same.

How much do the NV sights cost?

I heard up until Ref F, the failure rate was extremely high when used in rough environments. The same two credible sources stated that the Rev Fs seem to hold up much better than their predecessors.

By the time you add in the NV monocular or whatever, the delta between a 552 and a 512 is in the noise.

One of the members from Italy (I forget exactly whom, but I think it was Pinco Pallo [sp?]) posted a couple of years ago that he had dropped his Eotech-equipped rifle out of a helicopter (about 30ft, IIRC) onto concrete, and it still worked.

I did a comple face-plant on concrete from a dead run with my 512 (attached to my M4gery of course), and my 512F didn't so much as blink. It's got a cool scar across the left side of the roll hood, but still works just fine.
