Ok, this is my last question regarding the Aimpoint. I appreciate the help you all have given me so far..... If I get the Aimpoint with 2 MOA for hunting, ( mainly coyote hunting and on a 16 inch Bushmaster ) would that be accurate enough out to 250 yards on coyotes to possbily trade in my 20 inch HBAR with 4.5 x 14 scope? I like the idea of having very quick target acquisition with the Aimpoint, and being able to have both eyes open when shooting. But on coyote sized targets up to 250 yards, being an average shooter and shooting withoput a rest, should I be able to hit the coyote most of the time, or would the magnified 4.5 be the best bet? I know that when I turn up the magnification, the harder it is for me to hit the target due to the sight picture moving around...that is why I thought the Aimpoint set up would be best for me....Thanks again for any replies. --Tim

Honestly you will be happier with an ACOG TA31.

In my experience you would be better off with a conventional scope.  Accuracy can be good with the Aimpoint, but the problem is precision and target identification.  For such a small target at such relaively long ranges, the Aimpoint is less than ideal.

AImpoint + magnifier

or

ACOG

FWIW - I traded my Aimpoint for a TA11 and couldn't be happier with the TA11...no batteries and 3.5X are a huge plus.  It is also quite amazing how quickly you can train your eyes to use the BAC.  Keep both eyes open and shift focus to the magnified view when you stop on the target.  Of course, most of my shooting is 50+ yards also.

If I cleared buildings for a living, I would still like to have my Aimpoint though.

I would like an ACOG but I can barely afford the Aimpoint! Actually I cant really afford the Aimpoint either but we all have our priorities! OK, so from what I am gathering, it may not be a good idea for me to get a 16 inch carbine with the Aimpoint for my primary coyote weapon if I have a regular hunting scope to use instead? Thanks.--Tim

I have a cheap aimpoint replica on my Oly M4 and before I had that I had a BSA red dot on it. Anyways I used my M4 for varmit hunting, in particular mostly coyotes. I loved it for running shots and just the ease of it like you mentioned earlier and it was plenty accurate at 250yds and I pegged jackrabbits all the time with my 4moa red dot at 200+ yards. So go with the aimpoint if you want, I am sure it will do you just fine and you will really like it a lot. I am also getting a T168 scope for some longer shots and smaller vermin shooting, and that could be another option for you since it is cheap. Either way you go you will be peggin coyotes left and right with it. How are you getting the coyotes, walking and scaring them up or calling anyway because that makes a difference and will you be doing any night hunting?

What, you don't shoot both eyes open with your magnified optics?

The Aimpoint will work but I would recommend the ACOG's.
