What do the different numbers mean on scopes?  4x32, 3-9x40?  I'm looking for a couple of new scopes, one for my .22 and one for an SPR build I'm working on.

CDNN has some pretty good deals on scopes.  I'm looking at a cheap simmons for my .22, it's $30.  Is that a decent brand?  What should I be paying for a Swarovski?  I've got a friend who goes to Russia once a year and he says he can get them cheap.

First numbers are the magnification, then the objective lens diameter in millimeters.   4x20 is a four power scope with a 20mm lens.     Variable power scopes are labelled the same, i.e. 3-9x40 means scope zooms from 3x to 9x, and has a 40mm lens.

CDNN has some decent plinking scopes from time to time, but I've also seen them advertise a lot of no-name Chinese junk scopes as well.   For a .22, a Simmons should be fine.
