I've got a 16" AR an am looking to add an ACOG. I've been looking at the 4x32 ACOGs and really have only 2 situations that the ACOG would be used for. Sit 1- A monthly tactical COF that has targets from 5 to 30 yards. Sit 2- A yearly Prarie dog shoot that has shots out to 300yrd. I was looking at the TA01 and this would be great for Sit 2, but I'm having doubts about the Sit 1 CQB type of shootingwith a 4x sight. I haven't really looked at the Compacts yet....... Any ideas?? Another option is an Aimpoint or Eotech for the monthly CQB matches and the switch to the ACOG for the yearly Sit 2, but I was really looking to try and combine the two events w/one sight. scottMO |

+1 Mike will get you a deal no one can beat on a TA11. My TA11e is incredible - if only the rifle I bought it for would get shipped! |

So you want fast, close quarters shots in one scenario. Then you also want a precision optic for hunting prairie dogs at 300 yards. For the cost of the ACOG & mount I’d actually suggest a dot for the CQB stuff and a 3-9 scope. A TA-01 is about $700. A mount (ARMS or LaRue) is about $100-$120. Let’s say you’re into the TA-01 & mount for $800. You can find EOTech 511s for $300. A decent scope (e.g. a lower-end Leupold or Nikon) can be had for well under $300. That leaves you with $200 for mounts/rings. Heck, for that $200 you could have the LaRue scope mount. Guaranteed return to zero for your scope. Go without a QR mount for the EOTech and use the built-in mount for now. (Only issue will be a possible need to re-zero the EOTech when re-mounting, but at the distances you’re shooting the CQB stuff you probably won’t even notice the small POI shift.) Just throwing out some options to ya. If you are dead set on the ACOG, I’d vote the TA-11F. I have a TA-01 and love it. But it isn’t a great optic choice for CQB. edit for spelling and to say I used the low-end cost estimates for the ACOG. If you go with a new TA-11, you will pay more than $700. |

Thnaks everyone for the replies and great info!!! Sounds like I may go back to my Eotech/Aimpoint sight for the CQB and then worry about the PDog hunt later on. For those of you that have the donut or chevron in the 4x32 How easy/difficult is the 3-5 yard scenarios?? Does the target looks monsterous at that range w/a 4x?? scottMO |
