I am looking for an alternative to the traditional Colt Scope manufactured some years ago.  I would rather pay more for better quality than the Leapers or NcStar cheap Chinese options.

There is a review of these scopes in the product review section (see:  www.ar15.com/content/products/sights/cmo/), but this was from a few years ago.

Does anyone have experience with these scopes or CMO?

Leupold CQ/T and Trijicon TA01NSN are best for mid-to-long range work with an M4 and standard green-tip ball.  If you are using your weapon for very close work the majority of the time, a regular M68 or Eotech would be fine.

As for the handle-mounted minimum-magnification scopes...  I do what Nancy Reagen told me, I just say no.

Sorry, not that type of rifle and not that type of application.  I am looking for a simple, non-illuminated, handle-mounted scope, a la the Colt Scope.  CQB stuff is not part of this setup; it is a target only application for a DCM-style rifle.

Any hints?  Experience?  Other?

Just say yes to a Compact ACOG. Low power handle mounted optic. It's what you are looking for, but they are not cheap.

What some here are trying to not so subtley hint is that there are better optics on the market today than that design.   While they were quite popular *back in the day*, there hasn't been much interest in them except for the Colt collector types in quite a few years.

That said, if you have a preference for the Colt style, that's your choice.  I certainly appreciate your desire to buy a better version

I recall a Japanese version being available, but I'm not certain where you can buy them anymore.
