First I would like to say hi....being this my first post, I must say, I really enjoy the boards here and have learned alot already just reading many topics...being a former Marine I enjoy finding like minded people and a place the 2nd ammendment still means something....hoorah!! To my question.... I was thinking of getting an IOR 4x14x50 tactical scope...by what I have read on some reviews they seem to be a very sweet scope for the money....I was wondering how they truly compare to a leupold, Nikon or SB etc... Thanx, DAWG |
| My experience with IOR is limited to an M2, but it was built like a tank, had clear optics and good reticles. I may hesitate to say that they are in the same class as Leuplod and Nikon, but they are good, relatively inexpensive optics, at least in the fixed 4X category. |
+1 - same for me |

Well IOR does not get a very good rap around here because of what I think is the "red scare". People just don’t give them a chance because they come from Eastern Europe. I did a lot of optics research for the perfect optic for my MK11ish clone, well about 6 months worth and this is what I came up with. I first started out by out lining my wants. I wanted a tactical scope that had these features. -Illuminated reticle (red) -Variable power maxing out at near 10x -Max objective of 40mm -1/2 moa clicks -Under 20oz -And build to last These criteria are impossible to find in one optic. So I had to compromise a bit and it came between the IOR 2.5-10-42 and Leupold MR/T M3, both illuminated. I compared these optics side by side at my local gun shop (Bellevue Gun Supply). I personally found no difference in clarity of the glass outside and both were top notch, I could not notice a difference. Now I would like to say, you can’t compare the glass on an IOR M2 to that of there high end optics, there is a big difference some M2's make you think you are looking through pond water. To me the Leupold seemed to be build like a hunting scope, it just did not seem to be as ridged as the IOR, the IOR is as they say build like a tank and still only 17oz. The biggest thing for me was the fact that IOR made the optic with 1/2 MOA clicks. I think the 1 MOA is too much of an adjustment on the Leupold and I don’t like the clicks on the Leupold either, they feel too mushy, as where the IOR are very noticeable and give off a small click noise. As for the comparison in price I got my IOR for $650 compared to the $800+ for the Leupold. Every one who has used my optic has commented on how much they like it. If you go with IOR you will save a bundle of money and get what in my opinion is a better optic. O, I forgot to mention the IOR MP-8 reticle. I really like how it is Mil lines and not Mil dots, I think this makes holds much easier. I could go on and on but I will stop here. Any other questions about IOR, I will be happy to answer. I have a IOR 4X24 M1(cammed for 7.62x51mm) on my FAL and I agrree with the above statement. Fantastic battle rifle scope. Between $300/$350 best bang for the buck IMHO |

Fight4yourrights actually sealed the deal for me. I purchased a 4x24 M2 and IOR carry handle mount from SWFA a couple of weeks ago. The clarity of the glass on my scope is awesome, it was easy to zero, and I couldn't be happier for the money I spent. I was surprised, however, at how dimly lit the reticle was. I posted a question about that, but nobody answered. With fresh batteries and the reticle set at the highest power of 7, the illumination can not be seen in daylight (the reticle remains visible though). I assume the illuminated reticle is truly for low light only. Didn't mean to post a question on your question. To summarize, I've been so happy with the M2 that I'm considering an IOR 2.5-10. |

IOR is becoming one of the best companies when it comes to optics.... A lot of American's don't really give them a second look... I'm too lazy to acually write it myself but here: "Both tactcial scopes feature a 30mm tube diameter and a single-piece, milled body of 6061-T6 MilSpec alloy. The lenses are made in Romania from optical glass produced in Schott, Germany. Schott glass is widely regarded as the finest optical glass in the world. The lenses are coated with the Carl Zeiss T-3 system, comprising fully multi-coated lenses with anti-reflex treatment to eliminate glare and maximize light transmission. Another impressive feature is that the reticle is either engraved or photo-engraved directly onto the glass, depending upon the reticle pattern - no wire reticles to break here. This type of glass-manufacturing technology is crucial as far as the accuracy of tactical reticlcs intended for range-finding is concerned, as it allows the manufacturer to follow the mil and 1/2-mil reticle marks to virtually perfect tolerances. They also incorporate a Lock Support System on the reticle mechanism that requires no adjustment. Removing the elevation and windage caps reveals well-designed turrets that adjust easily by finger, with positive tactile and audible clicks. The top, raised edge of the turrets are knurled to give a good grip even with muddy or sweaty fingers. They are well marked with white numbers to easily keep track of adjustments. The tubes are O-ring sealed, nitrogen filled, and waterproof, with a matte black finish. Designed to operate in any conditions from -50 F to +150 F, in high humidity and rain, they come with a full lifetime warranty. ![]() Both scopes are available with either a Mil-Dot or their own MP-8 reticle. The 2.5x10 is also available with the 7A (duplex). " ![]() now for my experiences I have used math3wd3an's IOR scope on a 16" CL 1x9 RRA gov. profile... without a FF tube... and with a STOCK trigger (a consistant 8lbs approx)... And shot a 1.125" group at 200m.... math3w's IOR 2.5x10 is a fantastic scope.... the clicks on it are so awesome... perfect... makes a leupy's turrets seem like rotating human feces... . math3w... i think you should look into the 4x16 IOR for your mk11 build.... 10x doesn't seem to be enough... i think that the 2.5xetc scope will limit your gun too much on the extended range end of things... yo gun is a 1000m capiable weapon no doubt... ![]() or maybe even the new 2x12x32.... too bad you couldn't use a larue mount yet... maybe someday he'll get 35mm spr mounts made... ![]() new 9-36x56 35mm tactical scope |

Hi DevilzDawg welcome to the bord. The guys I think are give you good advice. I would recommend an IOR or the Nikon you will be happy with them. Leupold are really nice also but the IOR and Nikon I have been happier with. I like the MARK 4 10x this is a great scope! You may want to look at Nightforce also these are great scopes. We sale Leupold, IOR, Nikon, more so if you need anything just let me know. IOR 4-14x50 is built like a freaking tank. Thats no exageration. I know cuz I have one, and it has gotten beat around(even dropped off a bench once onto a hard tile floor). I have the adjustable objective version of the scope(it's not made anymore) If you don't want or need the side paralax adjustment you can find the older AO version for a good price. Other than that, I liked the IOR over leupolds that I looked at, mostly because the IOR had all the features I wanted but one, a 42MM objective. I'm glad I got the IOR. I love it. Other than that I think Matth3wdean pretty much has it covered with his post. Oh and that 2-12x32 looks sweet, I think I found a optic for my 6.8upper project(it's gunna be a deer hunting gun! |

For an AR-15 carbine or rifle, for general purposes, I can't think of a better scope. Other IOR owners (with other scopes from the IOR line) I have talked to love them. They are rugged, clear, great values. |
wtf? the IOR 2.5x10 is lighter than any nikon i've ever seen.. 17oz compared to 24oz..... 17oz is not bad for a 2.5x10 optic... |
