I've got a RRA NM A2 that will very shortly be turned into an A4.  I want to mount a scope to it and use it for precision paper punching @ 2-300 yds. and possibly prarie dog hunting one day.  I like the Leupolds with the fine duplex reticle, a friend has a fixed 6X mounted to his M14 and it's nice.  What power do I need for my intended purposes and what objective size?  Also, will I need a riser on top the flat top or just a set of high/super high rings?  I'm open to any suggestions for scope models, I'd like to keep the cost around $300 if possible, plus the cost of the mount.  Thanks in advance.  MJD

Here's a pic of a Leupold VXII 3-9X40mm setup I had.  To get the proper eye relief, the scope had to be mounted on a rail to move it forward.  In this case, I used a GG&G FIRE Scout rail.  The rings are Leupold Mk4 high rings, although I think a medium set of rings would have been more appropriate in this case.

The VXIIs can be purchased for around $300.
The Mk4 rings run around $100 or so.
The GG&G rails runs $80 or so.

A little over your budget, but this is a very good setup.
