I curently have a Simmons 2.8-10X44 on my 16" varmint setup and I am considering another scope.  Is there a scope for under $350 that would be better suitec for varminting?  Why?  I was thinking of going to a 50 mm since I may be shooting in low light. I like variables since I shoot at different distances.  I went to Bass Pro shop and looked but became overwhelmed by the vast number of scopes and differing prices.  I liked the Leupold 4-12X40 and the Nikkon Buckmaster 4-14X40.  There is nothing wrong with the Simmons, just wondering if there would be a good reason to change.  most of the higher end scopes I saw were 40mm.    Which I thought might look goofy sitting in that high mount.
This is what's on there now.

Any recommendations??

I own a super sniper 10x....its really nice

also have a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40...LOVE IT!.

Nikon has the best glass for the price. Leupy will cost twice as much for similar glass.

Go Nikon!!!

eta: a good rule of thumb: the scope should cost as musch as the rifle did

Sounds like a decent rule of thumb, but I'm not buying a Swarovski

Take a look at these Weaver scopes, I have one and feel it is made very well for the money. As to the mount, that mount places the scope at the proper height for an AR15, don't be too concerned with objective size.

I have a 10X super Sniper scope and it works well.

The weavers are also nice for hunting, but you might check out some nikons also.
