What makes a Eotech worth $300 compared to any other red dot that can go for $50-$150 like a tacpoint or Hakko? This has probably been answered before but just wanted to know the difference before I paid $300 for the sight. Id be using the sight for out to about 50yrds mainly just plinking but would like it for serious use as well. |
I would say mil grade electronics and battery life. You get what you pay for usually. I think it's like saying what's the difference between bushmaster and hesse. Similar but worlds apart. |

If anything, the EOTech should be going for more. Unlike the Aimpoint and its ilk, which use relatively cheap LEDs, the EOTech utilizes a laser diode in order to create its reticle. Laser diodes typically need more precise alignment, some degree of cooling, and pretty well-controlled power supplies. Also, the EOTechs have the rather robust hood and inbuilt Picatinny mount. |
Your kidding right? - the ability to use common batteries (AAs) - The ability for the glass to be damaged and it keeps working - Battery life - Mud or snow won't stop it (unlike other open sights like the OKO, C-More, Hakko Panaramoic, Reflex) - The abilility to take more abuse and keep running. - Waterproof rating is MUCH MUCH higher - Lack of a parrallax issue - Doesn't lose zero when knocked around - Adjustments are discrete, linear, and repeatable. If your just plinking you probably won't notice any differences, but for serious usage the differences become more important as they make the EOTech far more reliable. |
