I own a bushmaster DCM rifle without a removable carry handle.  I often shoot competition (iron sights only), but for my own personal enjoyment I am outfitting my rifle with a military spec scope.  I opted to mount the scope atop my carry handle, using a mount which is removable without loss of zero.  The mount has a threaded stud which goes through the hole in the carry handle, and is held on by a bushing/nut that screws on from below.  The mount was supplied with a "bell washer" which supposily acts as some sort of lock-nut to put pressure between the nut and receiver, preventing the mount from becoming loose.  After mounting the scope, a trip to the range showed that after three rounds, the nut on the mount would loosen.  I had tighten the nut hand tight (told never to over tighten).  It was suggested to me to use loctite, however I do not want to have a struggle to remove the mount if a competition arises.  What suggestions would you have to secure a positive fit without  having the mount loosening?  (ie lock washer, star washer, etc) If I used a star washer, would I want the stars on the outside of the washer, or the inside type?

When mounting a scope atop the carry handle, is it common to find a great loss of elevation?  Are there inserts that go between the scope ring and the scope to decrease this? (I have not sighted in the scope yet)

Also, what's the secret to getting a perfectly plum vertical crosshair?  I was thinking of leveling my rifle (using a water level say across the handgaurds) and plubing the cross hair to a string or rope with a weight on the end hanging out around 50 yards.

If anyone can help me on these questions, can you please shoot an email to me.  Thankyou.  [email protected]

Most of the quality carry handle mounts have a "lock mechanism" built in.  I would scrap what you have a get an A.R.M.S. #2...very good mount.

Thanks for the advice.  I think before purchasing such mount I will try a few 10 cent ideas from my local hardware store.  Perhaps I can get a thumb screw with a locking allen key, or try a couple different washers.  The mount I have is a quality mount currently used in Iraq.

The scope I have has over 100 moa clicks of elevation.  When mounting a scope on the carry handle and zeroing at 100 yards, how much elevation loss am I looking at?

Because of the height of the scope, my local gun shop was unable to bore sight.  What tricks can be used to get the vertical cross hair plumb?  At 100-200 yards canting will not effect zero a great deal, but I would like to get it close as possible incase I decide to click out to 500+ yards.
