Interested in purchasing that one for my SPR setup. Looking to get the SS 20x42, any reviews ? seems to me like a decent scope for the price and a good starter also what is the difference between SS 10x42 and SS 10x42M: there is like $100 difference in the price. |
| I have one that I use on my for lack of a better term Urban purpose Rifle, its a 16 inch setup for intermediate perimeter work inside of 100 yards. I love the scope it has always held zero and for the price I dont think you will find glass comparable, other may argue but I trust it. |
Yep, I have one. Good scope for the money. Even the 10x is a bit much for an AR-15, IMO, hence mine is leaving my 24" Vmatch and getting mounted on my Remington PSS. 10x is WAY too much for an AR-15 that is going to be used for "social" purposes. 20x is just crazy. You have way too little field of view. I wouldn't go over a 5x on an AR-15 - think of the range of the cartridge. How about a nice 4x IOR M2? Great glass there. Just my opinion, but I've tried everything from 6-24x-50mm to ACOGs, to M2, to SS10x42M to Aimpoints. I've shot competitions on Marine Corps pop-up ranges and taken tactical carbine courses. You find out what optics work well for "tactical" use and what don't.
The 'M' model has the side adjustable objective. There are some other differences in front lense recess, as detailed in the above referenced articles, but the main difference is the side AO. |

I have a 20x and use it exclusively on my Serbu BFG .50bmg Hundreds of rounds and no problems.... my friends Serbu ate another manufacturers scope after less than 20 rounds. His SS 10x is working fine still, after alot of rounds. The difference between the two 10x scopes it that one has the bullet drop compensator on the side ( more expensive ) and the other has it on the rear ( less expensive ) LB |
Uhmm not exactly...the side knob on the M and the rear one on the regular model are for adjusting Paralex... NOT a bullet drop |
I had been set on the M one for a while, but just ordered the regular one yesterday after looking into it more, I really couldnt justify spending an extra 100 dollars for that feature |
that's what I'm thinking too, cannot justify spending 400 bux on a SS 10xM when a Leupold is like 300 bux away but for 299 I think it's a good buy. I'll get the SS10x, or maybe the SS16x don't forget to post feedbacks once u get the scope. thanks |
The advantages of the "M" model as I see it: 1) Prestige - more expensive scopes have side knobs for adjusting the objective 2) Resale value 3) easier to use 4) doesn't interfere with scope caps (the non-M rotates the rear eyepiece, rotating the cap) Now, is it worth it? Well.........Bang for the Buck = non-M model. Deluxe version = M model. |
+1 i got it cause it was more expensive also makes it easier to adjust while still having your eye on the target. |
